Matt Cardona on Potential Future WWE Return & Never Got AEW Contract Offer

A recent episode of The Ariel Helwani Show featured former WWE and current indies talent Matt Cardona as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Cardona’s thoughts about his interest in making a potential return to WWE in the future.

“I don’t I think I deserve anything…but I think I have earned the opportunity to go back. I don’t think it’s cocky to say that if my music hit at the Royal Rumble, whether it be Zack Ryder or Matt Cardona, the place would explode, the roof would come off the place, social media would explode, I would move merch, I know that.”

Cardona also stated that he has had “cordial communication” with WWE but has yet to receive a contract offer from the company.

Cardona also gave his thoughts about potentially reuniting with his wife Chelsea Green in WWE in the future.

“I would love to be (in WWE) with (Chelsea). Whether we’re on camera or not, I think we’re better together. I want to be there not just because she’s there, but because I belong there. I know I belong there.”

Cardona also gave his thoughts about how he never received a contract offer from AEW after his previous stints in the company and after this past December’s ROH Final Battle 2024 event.

“A month or so ago, I get called, ‘Hey, do you want to wrestle Chris Jericho at Hammerstein Ballroom?’ Hell yes, I do. Another guy I grew up idolizing. We do the weeks of TV, getting reactions in-house, social media, killer match at Hammerstein Ballroom. [Shrugs] Nothing.”

Cardona also gave his thoughts about why he did not bother to contact AEW CEO Tony Khan or others in AEW about the situation.

“I didn’t get one [laughs]. Hey, maybe it got lost in the mail. I don’t know.”

Cardona also gave his thoughts about his current interest in a potential contract with AEW.

“Of course. I loved my time there. Even this past time in December, I love it there. I think it’s a great company. I think it’s great for the business. I think everybody’s working their ass off there. But everything has to be the right situation, but I wasn’t offered anything.”
