As noted before, last week’s AEW Dynamite Fight for the Fallen 2025 show in Asheville, North Carolina featured Jeff Jarrett announcing that he recently signed a new contract with AEW and it will be his final contract of his wrestling career.
A recent episode of the My World with Jeff Jarrett podcast featured co-host Jarrett giving his thoughts about his decision to sign a new deal with AEW to remain in the company and his current chase for the AEW World Championship.
“Conrad, I’ll just leave it at this. I am very grateful, me and you both know prior to the pandemic, conversations going on about the pod and all that kind of stuff. Going back to the very first Starrcast, I didn’t have wrestling on my what they call it, bingo card. But, all of the conversations that have taken place, not just between me and my family, but kind of my wrestling family, Sonjayy, Jay, gotta throw Satnum in there. I’ll say this, I’ve had different conversations with wrestling luminaries and legends and people that I really respect, both inside of AEW and outside about what should my next steps really be. I threw it out there in just about every conversation, do I keep going, do I hang it up, do I head strictly 100% down the business path, and it kind of was a collective deal because my first gut was, okay, I’m gonna re-sign wrestling, let’s will something into existence. I told Jay, I said, ‘Jay, let’s go after tag team gold.’ Then he was like, ‘Satnum is the true one in a billion here, let’s kind of look at trios gold.’ We had that conversation as well. Then, Jay was the first one but there were a couple of different individual conversations I had and they just went back to [the world title chase]. That’s what the promo was really based on, high risk, high reward. When I kind of looked at that, so many memories came back through my mind. You know, my dad used to tell me that his grandfather, he had always said, ‘Son, if you’re going to climb a tree, don’t get under the tree and figure out how you can climb up to the first branch and the second branch and the third branch. Get back way away from the tree and figure out how you can climb to the very top. At the very least, you’re probably going to get at least halfway up there.’ So using that analogy and kind of thinking it through — Again, I’m going to lean into Jay on this. Among others, there’s a former world champion who told me, ‘Jeff, are you kidding me, go out swinging. You don’t have any aspirations of having some year, six months, three months run, just go for it all.’ When I kind of looked at that and the contract negotiations kind of got finalized and I said okay, the whole premise of the promo was I’m going for the world title. All the contract stuff came in and it felt like there was as much buzz about the contract stuff as the world title. I’m just gonna say this, you’ve willed it into existence. You always joke about it, but no, I’m gonna or trying or I’m going for it all. So, I am really excited. This stage of my career, you know literally better than anybody. That’s it, pal. I’m excited, I really am excited for 2025.”
