Willie Mack Pulled from GCW Events & Conflicting Reports Over AEW’s Involvement in the Pulling
In a recent interview with Fightful Select, Game Changer Wrestling stated that Willie Mack was pulled from their upcoming events this weekend.
“GCW claimed to Fightful today that Willie Mack has been removed from next weekend’s GCW shows. The company is under the impression this still stems from Effy’s comments as AEW has no shows scheduled next week.”
Sean Ross Sapp initially reported that Mack’s pulled bookings was directly due to AEW but later retracted it due to issues over conflicting stories and not getting clear information over the exact cause and reason for it. Sapp stated in a Bluesky tweet “Deleted the Willie Mack post until everyone involved gets their shit straight on who did or didn’t allow what.”
Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources within GCW and AEW gave conflicting stories over what happened and who was to blame.
Meltzer reported that GCW’s side of the story is that Mack had called them this past Saturday informing that he was pulled from the show by AEW over the on-going EFFY situation. Meltzer reported that GCW owner Brett Lauderdale called Sonjay Dutt and asked if the story from Mack was true and was told by Dutt that it wasn’t. Lauderdale reportedly then contacted Mack and asked for clarification. Mack reportedly responded back stating that he wasn’t specifically pulled but AEW Head of Talent Relations Christopher Daniels made it clear that he shouldn’t go.
In regards to AEW, Meltzer reported that AEW’s side of the story is that nothing like that happened and instead Mack called them and asked if it would be a problem to go to GCW’s events. AEW officials reportedly stated that they said Mack can go. Those within AEW reportedly believe that Mack might have taken it the wrong way and made the decision on his own but the company was “very very clear” that they were not pulling him from the show.
Meltzer also reported that Mack is currently under contract with AEW but did not provide any other details regarding the type of contract, per date tiered or full-time.
