ROH Final Battle 2024 media Scrum: Billie Starkz & Red Velvet’s Star Rises, ROH Returning to Hammerstein Ballroom, Matt Cardona in ROH, AEW/ROH & GCW Relationship Update, Ross Von Erich Injury Update, Future Residencies

Ring of Honor owner Tony Khan held a media scrum on Tuesday to promote this Friday’s Final Battle 2024 event at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, New York.

Some of the notable highlights included:

  • On the topic of Billie Starkz and her upcoming match against Athena for the ROH Women’s World Championship, Khan praised Starkz and stated it has been great to watch her growth. Khan also praised her storyline with Athena in ROH.
  • On the topic of ROH returning to the Hammerstein Ballroom, Khan stated that this Friday’s show will be the first time that he will step into the Hammerstein Ballroom.
  • On the topic of Red Velvet’s rise as a star, Khan stated that Red Velvet has been a star in the making for the years and praised her for stepping up in the ring this year more than ever.
  • On the topic of the Matt Cardona vs. Chris Jericho match for the ROH World Championship, Khan stated that it will be a double main event with Athena vs. Starkz.
  • On the topic of Matt Cardona, Khan stated that Cardona is someone he liked and wanted to do more with after his work with Adam Copeland in AEW earlier this year. Khan also praised Cardona for being a top indie wrestler and a real New York guy and for being a great person to come into ROH and work with. Khan also stated that he is interested in working with Cardona going forward and if Cardona wins the ROH title, he is someone you will see a lot going forward.
  • On the topic of the Righteous vs. Sons of Texas match for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, Khan talked about their feud being a very personal issue and stated that he didn’t know the history between Dutch and the late Dusty Rhodes. Khan also stated that he is excited for their Double Bull Rope match and the first they have ever had. Khan also praised Dustin Rhodes for his work as a talker and talent and things Sammy Guevara can learn a lot from him.
  • On the topic of the status of the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship and the Von Erichs, Khan stated that Ross Von Erich will be back soon from injury. Khan stated that Ross’ injury took longer to heal than expected but that is okay. Khan stated that the Six-Man titles will be back soon and he is excited to have the Von Erichs back as well.
  • On the topic of the status AEW and ROH’s working relationship with Game Changer Wrestling and everything that has gone down of late between the companies, Khan stated “it remains to be seen.
  • On the topic of Chris Jericho’s recent appearance at a GCW event, Khan stated “Matt helped put that together. Matt asked me about it, and obviously, I was happy to send Chris to promote the match that is happening on ROH as part of the double main event. It’s something we spent weeks building up on ROH and AEW TV, which is a nice thing. There is a lot of matches and potential things that could happen with Matt being the challenger and potentially being the ROH World Champion going forward. That’s something to keep an eye on. With Matt appearing there, and this being a title match, it made sense to do something to promote. It’s very much along the lines of things we’ve done with other matches along the ways over the years.
  • On the topic of if AEW and ROH’s upcoming Hammerstein shows could influence doing other similar residencies, Khan stated that they have great opportunities to do similar in runs in other places. Khan also stated that he would love to do more shows at the Hammerstein in the future. Khan also stated that he expects this weekend to be a fun time and they have found something “here” that they can replicate and create a tradition for them.
  • On the topic of the current card for Final Battle 2024, Khan stated that more matches are still coming together and teased one potentially involving LEEJ (Lee Johnson & EJ Nduka).
