Tuesday’s WWE NXT show at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, Massachusetts featured the NXT Championship match between Eddy Thorpe and Trick Williams ending in controversy to close out the show.
This controversy revolved around the original match referee being accidentally taken out leading to a second referee running out to the ring. At the end of the match, Williams hit a Trick Shot to Thorpe causing both men to fall down and have each other’s shoulders be down as the original match referee recovered and got back into the ring. This led to each referee counting to three each for a different person despite Thorpe’s foot being under the ropes. Both referees were then confused over who was the actual winner causing NXT GM Ava to come out demanding to know who won as the close went to a close.

WWE released a digital exclusive video featuring the aftermath of Tuesday’s NXT show. This involved NXT GM Ava making an official decision and declared Williams retaining his NXT title. This led to an angry Thorpe shouting at Ava causing WWE SVP of NXT & Talent Relations Shawn Michaels to come out only to get shoved by Thorpe. This led to NXT officials and Williams quickly getting involved and separated the two. Williams then grabbed Thorpe and tossed into the ring and laid him out with a kick.

This is the second time that Thorpe and Michaels have been involved in a storyline physical altercation, following the two getting physical in the lead up to NXT’s Deadline 2024 show this past November.
