AEW Worlds End 2024 Post-Show Media Scrum: Adam Copeland on His Surprise Return, Rated FTR’s AEW Gold Plans, Fight for the Fallen 2025, Hammerstein Ballroom, Online Negativity Towards AEW, WWE Running Event on Same Night

AEW held a media scrum following Saturday’s Worlds End 2024 event at the Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida.

Some of the notable highlights included:

  • During Rated FTR’s portion of the media call, Copeland gave his thoughts about his recovery from a fractured tibia injury and his surprise return to AEW. Copeland stated “It’s one of those deals where, if you watch my career, it’s not out of my character to do insane things. It’s kind of what I do, every once in a while. I’ll get a hair up my ass and decide, ‘Yeah, I’m going to dive through a flaming table, sure.’ That’s just me. It’s kind of hardwired into me. I also think it’s part of why I’ve gotten to where I’ve gotten. That being said, I realize I’m closer to the tail end of my career than the beginning, and I have kids now, so there is a different mindset that goes into it. In terms of recovery, I’m still lucky in that I recover like Wolverine. Part of that is, I just go after it. The day I can go after it is the day I do it. I’ve actually been cleared for a while, but Tony and I had a conversation and our area got hit my a hurricane. It was much more important to be home. We just got the water boil advisory lifted three weeks ago. We’ve been using bottled water to brush our teeth and wash our hands for close to three months. When real life hits like that, something like this has to take second place. Luckily, we’re at a place where that is considered and respected. In terms of being back and ready, I’m ready to go. Every month for me, at this stage, feels like a year. I have to get in and get cooking.
  • Copeland also gave his thoughts about him and FTR’s current plans to go after the AEW World Tag Team titles, the AEW World Trios titles, and the AEW World title. Copeland stated “If you can think about gold, that’s what we’re going after. I think [FTR] should be tag team champions, I think we should win the trios championships, I’m going after the world heavyweight championship. For a while, when I first got here, I was like, ‘Okay, I’m here, I’ve got to get the lay of the land. I have to get everybody to know who I am.’ That’s gone. Now it’s time to be here and to make a difference, to show everybody exactly who I am and exactly who [FTR] are. There is a reason I’ve accomplished everything I’ve accomplished in this industry and there is a reason that nobody can scratch what I’ve accomplished. Take a look, nobody can. That may sound egotistical and cocky, but when it’s true, it’s just confidence. My plan is to go after Jon Moxley in a match that you’ve never seen before between two guys who are at the top of their field and go out there and do what we do, which is to have kick-ass old, grinding, gritty, NWA World Heavyweight Title matches-type vibe. That’s what I want to get out of him. That’s what I’m looking forward to. It’s going to happen sooner than later.
  • On the topic of their friendship, FTR’s Cash Wheeler stated that all three of them are legit best friends and communicate with each other all the time. Wheeler also stated that he has been dealing with family issues of late and the only thing that got him on a plave to be here tonight was to be with Dax Harwood and Copeland.
  • On the topic of AEW’s Dynamite Fight for the Fallen 2025 show, FTR’s Dax Harwood stated that the original plan wasn’t for the show to take place in Asheville but Tony Khan came up with the idea to do the show there and donate the money to charity to help those affected by the devastating hurricane.
  • During his portion of the media call, AEW CEO Tony Khan gave his thoughts about the potential of the Hammerstein Ballroom could be a new holiday tradition moving forward for AEW. Khan stated that he was very open to that idea and brought up the success of the AEW and ROH shows that took place at the venue last week.
  • On the topic of the negativity online against AEW and if AEW had a way to combat it going into 2025, Khan talks about how there were people who poked holes in the success of last year’s All In event despite it selling over 80,000 tickets at Wembley Stadium. Khan also talked about how there were many favorable figure about AEW including how AEW fans are loyal to the product and he had learned things about the company through their recent media rights deal negotiations that he did not know about before.
  • On the topic of WWE running a house show event on the same night and head-to-head against AEW’s Worlds End 2024 event, Khan stated “It’s great for the city of Orlando with two major pro wrestling events happening on the same night. There were thousands and thousands of fans at both shows. We had a capacity crowd here. It was so great being here at UCF. This arena has been a tremendous host, and for us and the community, it was great to have such amazing support from the fans. It shows how strong worldwide pro wrestling, particularly here in the United States, is to have in one major American city with two promotions running head-to-head on the same night, to have two great crowds. I know our fans here were awesome, and it was a great show tonight, thanks to the Orlando fans. They were tremendous.
