Update on AEW’s Taping Plans for Future AEW Collision Shows
In recent months AEW has aired several of their AEW Collision shows as taped instead of live shows on Saturdays. These tapings have been held either on Wednesdays or Thursdays for various reasons.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the current expectation is that AEW will be holding more Collision tapings on Thursdays going forward.
Meltzer reported that the reason for this change is due to it being something that AEW’s main talents currently favor for their work schedules in the company.
Talents who are on the road for Dynamite tapings on Wednesdays and are booked for Collision that same week reportedly currently prefer to stay for a second day of tapings in a row than stay on the road for two days or go home on Thursday and have to travel back on Friday night or Saturday morning for Collision.
Meltzer reported that while this benefits talents, it does come with the tradeoff of hurting Collision’s rating somewhat by not being a live show. AEW officials reportedly feel that the difference between live and taped ratings for Collision is not big enough to try to go live every week and sacrifice the travel load and goodwill of their talent.

AEW News & Notes
Friday’s AEW Rampage show featured former Major League Wrestling talent Richard Holliday making his official in-ring debut appearance in AEW. Holliday teamed up with Alec Price in a tag team match against La Faccion Ingobernable (RUSH & Dralistico), which was won by LFI.
Dave Meltzer announced in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that The Young Bucks (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson) were among the inductees for this year’s class for the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame. Meltzer reported that the Young Bucks received 61.3% votes and above the 60% vote threshold needed for induction. The Young Bucks total vote percentage reportedly was tied for fifth out of the 9 inductees for this year’s class.
Netflix’s recently released part two of the sixth season of their Cobra Kai television series featured Britt Baker making an appearance in several episodes. Baker portrays a member of the Tiger Strike dojo team in the series.
As noted before, the October 30th AEW Fright Night Dynamite show in Cleveland, Ohio featured Private Party defeating The Young Bucks to become the new AEW World Tag Team Champions. Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported in a recent Q&A article that his sources stated that several people within AEW had pushed for The Outrunners (Turbo Floyd & Truth Magnum) to be the team to defeat the Young Bucks for the tag titles. AEW officials reportedly decided on Private Party to be the team to dethrone the Young Bucks instead after being pleased with Private Party’s storyline feud with the Young Bucks was working out well.
In a recent interview with the 693 SENQ podcast, Darby Allin gave his thoughts about how he initially believed for a moment that he had suffered a broken rib injury during his brawl with Claudio Castagnoli as part of a larger brawl segment between the Death Riders and AEW’s locker room during the November 6th AEW Dynamite show. Allin stated “I just want to stay in one piece and not end up going to the hospital. I feel like I’m dodging bullets. After last week of getting thrown into the steel post by Claudio, I thought my ribs broke for a second. When I hit the ground I was like ‘Ughh.’ This is what I live for. I live for the craziness. I wouldn’t have it any other way.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In a recent interview with the Talk Is Jericho podcast, Private Party’s Marq Quen revealed he was the one who came up with the idea of having a velvet rope aspect for Private Party’s entrances for their matches. Quen stated “Just looking at Goldberg’s entrance. ‘Goldberg came from back there.’ I wanted to be like Goldberg, we come off a party bus and go straight to the ring. That didn’t happen. So, I was like, ‘What if we had a rope like you get at the club.’ The Bucks were like, ‘Yeah, where can we get one from?’ We went upstairs to the concourse in Jacksonville, and we took that rope. We took it on the truck. I saw it again and was like, ‘Oh, they kept it.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In a recent interview with Fightful, Rocky Romero gave his thoughts about New Japan Pro Wrestling talents leaving the company and signing with AEW and the benefits for NJPW over those talents leaving for WWE instead. Romero stated “It’s like, people don’t fully understand, like Okada leaving New Japan and joining AEW, Ospreay leaving New Japan and starting at AEW. It wasn’t that AEW went and stole that talent exactly. There’s more to these back stories than just AEW just said, ‘Hey, here’s X amount of dollars, come with us.’ There’s more to it. I’m sure, Sean, you hear a lot of things that go on in professional wrestling and it’s not as simple as that. It’s actually, it’s more complex than that. If Okada was gonna leave and say go to WWE, I think that it serves New Japan and it serves AEW for Tony to try to step in and try to keep him on this side and same thing with Ospreay. Obviously they have new regimes come in and some have stronger ties with some than others, but I try to give everybody the benefit of the doubt at least and if it makes sense, to everyone that’s on board, why not give it a go? If it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t work out. That’s okay too.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
