Rocky Romero Comments on AEW & NJPW’s Relationship Being “Very Successful Compromise On Both Sides”

Fightful held a recent interview with AEW and NJPW talent and backstage official Rocky Romero. One of the topics discussed included Romero’s thoughts about working with AEW CEO Tony Khan and NJPW officials for the booking of NJPW talents in AEW shows and vice versa.

“I worked very closely with Tony on this end and I worked very close with the booking committee in Japan and Tanahashi and everybody involved with that and obviously they everybody knows who’s important on their side and it kind of always starts there and then we can kind of trickle down to see like where everybody fits. It’s like a big puzzle, you know, putting it all together and trying to make everybody happy and there’s side deals that go along. It’s a lot like playing Monopoly. It’s like side deals going on, like, ‘Okay, well, if we give you this here, can we get this there.’”

Romero also gave his thoughts about AEW and NJPW’s current working relationship being a “very successful compromise on both sides.”

“I think it’s been a very successful compromise on both sides since the relationship started. I know like there’s people who probably don’t fully understand the scope of it, but have are quick to you know make their opinion known of who’s getting more and who’s not and I always say like this is a relationship that’s not here for six months, we’re doing one show and that’s it. This is going to be a relationship that is going to be built for and worked on for a very long time. So I always tell people have patience and I think that that’s the one thing in professional wrestling that most fans and most people don’t have is patience to see how it’s all gonna play out.”

Kyle Fletcher Comments on Getting Opportunities as a Singles Wrestler in AEW

A recent episode of the Wrestle Radio Australia podcast featured Kyle Fletcher as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Fletcher’s thoughts about the potential of him reuniting Aussie Open with Mark Davis or if it is time for him to stay as a singles wrestler.

“With wrestling, you kind of have to roll with punches a lot of the time and think on your feet. ‘This is working right now, let’s go this way.’ I don’t think a lot of it is up to me. Davis being injured is obviously unfortunate, but I took that opportunity to showcase that I’m just as good on my own, if not better. With what’s happening with Davis now, and me and Will now, only time will kind of tell whether or not we get back on the same page and run the tag division again. I’m not saying I’m against it, we have to work out some of those issues. We would absolutely destroy the tag division, and likewise, I’ve always had big goals in professional wrestling and I want to be a muli-time world champion. If right now is the time to chase that, then now is the time to do it. I don’t think all of that is entirely up to me.”
