Update on Danhausen’s Lengthy AEW Absence

Danhausen has been absent from AEW television and programming for almost a whole year. Danhausen’s absence is currently believed to be due to issues between AEW officials and Danhausen over dropped plans for his potential return last year and Danhausen prioritizing his indie bookings over working Collision shows.

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported in a recent Q&A article that his sources stated that there was some contact between Danhausen and AEW officials this past September but there has been no updated regarding any creative plans for a potential return.

Sapp reported that Danhausen has never said nor implied he will not work again for AEW so if they were to tell him to come back to work, he will.

AEW News & Notes

Sapp reported that there has been no new updates since then from his sources.

Anthony Bowens recently reflected on Twitter about this past Wednesday being the 12th anniversary of his wrestling career’s debut. Bowens statedOfficially 12 years in the wrestling business! What an absolutely INSANE ride it’s been. Thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with me. ✂️👑 @AEW

The Butcher recently reflected on Twitter about this past Wednesday being the five-year anniversary of his official debut in AEW. The Butcher statedYesterday was 5 yrs with @aew for me. I feel like I’ve lived 50 lives since then. Monocle, pants sash, long hair, tassels, fat, shredded, bald, Malenko trunks, bunk house Butch, white clothes,..etc. Now I’m rampage man or something. Love what this company has allowed me to do.

In a recent interview with Sportskeeda’s WrestleBinge podcast, Orange Cassidy gave his thoughts about what he would say to naysayers and critics of AEW and those who want to see the company fail Cassidy stated “I could say, ‘Why do you care?’ I could say, if you want AEW to fail, then fine. I don’t know why you have to go on and say it out loud. We are a very young company. We’ve been around for five years. We’ve just grown exponentially fast and gained traction very early, thanks to Tony Khan. We’re gonna have to go through adjustments. This isn’t gonna be a thing that’s an only now problem. We’re gonna have problems throughout our entire tenure. This is just the way it is. I always feel that the powers that be at AEW are trying to do their best to bring the best product, and if that means we gotta go somewhere else, we’re gonna go somewhere else. This is just part of it. I really hope AEW doesn’t go anywhere because if people really want AEW to fail and not succeed, it’s best when there’s competition, and you’d like to think that maybe something is going on in their lives, and maybe they’re going through some stuff, and they get angry, and they gotta vent. Whatever. I just don’t read it.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with Fightful, QT Marshall gave his thoughts about fans not liking him and how he likes taking their frustrations on a live audience. Marshall stated “I don’t know why the fans, they don’t like me for whatever reason, but I’m okay with it. I lean into it. I enjoy it. I think being a good person behind the scenes and in my life, I think it’s fun to be able to take that out on the live audience and get those frustrations out. They have a lot of frustrations with a lot of the talent, so let them put it on me. I’m okay with it.” Marshall also gave his thoughts about his belief of why wrestling fans hate him in AEW. Marshall stated “Man, Tony and I were just talking about this the other day. It started obviously with just being there because of being Cody’s assistant and then kind of falling into the TV stuff. But I think a lot of it was never pushing back and fighting against the rumors and innuendo of why I had the spots that I had. It’s like, ‘If that’s what you want to believe, I’m all for it. There’s nothing that I would hate more as a fan than a guy in a spot because he used his relationships to get there and didn’t really earn it. You know what I mean? So to me, that was like the easiest way to just lean into it and have fun with it. So as a fan, I completely understand why you wouldn’t like me and I try to do my best, not to give any reason to.” Marshall also gave his thoughts about how he was able to flip the crowd into cheering him for some of his recent dark matches in AEW and Ring of Honor. Marshall stated “[But two of those dark matches, believe it or not, I was a full on baby face and I was able to flip the crowd right away.] So, I enjoy it too, but no, I know what my lane is. I’m good at it. I enjoy it. Wrestling is like an outlet for me to kind of let out some steam and if I’m able to do it once in a while, especially in front of a nice audience, it’s definitely worth it for me. It’s worth it on my body as well.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with the Insight with Chris an Vliet podcast, Ricky Starks gave his thoughts about him attending WWE’s WrestleMania XL event would have been a lesser deal if him attending WWE’s Royal Rumble event earlier had not caused a big stir online. Starks stated “You know who else was in the box with me? (Dustin Rhodes). QT Marshall. Aaron Solo. This is not me putting them on blast. They were in the box. Fans have footage of me celebrating. There was no issue about that. There was no issue at all. Before I went, Tony (Khan) said, ‘Hey, it’s okay.’ There was no issue. If he actually didn’t mean that, okay, I don’t know. There was no issue with that and I still, to this day, don’t see a problem with it. I got into this because I am a fan. I love professional wrestling. Regardless of where I work, I’m going to support people that I love and I’m going to support wrestling in general. I was there to watch Jade’s first Mania match and was extremely proud. I was at Mania the year before that and saw Cody lose. There is no issue with somebody being at another show. Jay-Z isn’t going to go to a J. Cole concert? I remember seeing quote tweets about how I was dickriding Cody because I was there. If you took this situation out of the scope of wrestling, people would think it’s normal, but supposedly, for some reason, it is so taboo to not be over there when you work here. Who cares? We’re all getting paid, aren’t we? There are people at NXT who are at AEW shows, all the time. Never an issue. When we did the Forum, there was people from WWE backstage. Sure, they weren’t photographed, but you think I’m going to tell a fan, who paid for their seat, to not photograph me up in the box seat? I didn’t give a fuck, and I still don’t. I didn’t care about the Rumble thing or the Mania thing. Nobody is going to make me feel like a bad person for doing something out of the goodness of my heart. I wanted to enjoy live wrestling and see my friends wrestle live, and that’s what I did.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
