WWE: Trick Williams on Origin of His “Whoop That Trick” Chant, Drew McIntyre on New WWE Women’s Midcard Title Would be Absolutely Justified, WWE Touts NXT’s Premiere Ratings on The CW

Trick Williams Comments on Origin of His “Whoop That Trick” Chant in WWE Being Totally Organic

A recent episode of the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast featured WWE NXT talent Trick Williams as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Williams thoughts about the origin of his “Whoop That Trick” chant in WWE’s NXT brand.

“I was rocking with [Carmelo Hayes] at the time. We used to come out to his music, and people were chanting ‘Whoop that Trick, whoop that Trick.’ I looked at Melo, I said ‘Yo, are they with us or they against us?’ ‘I don’t know.’ I hit a move or something, got a bodyslam, [they said] ‘Whoop that Trick!’ Oh, I think they like this! Those ‘Whoop that Trick’ chants, it was started by the crowd. Just continued to grow, and grow, and grow. It was totally organic. But I think it really took off when I changed my entrance music. This is something else I’m not sure people know, but, I went to production team, I said ‘Hey, I would like to change my music. I want to go with ‘Family Ties,’ Kendrick Lamar. I want heavy horns in the beginning, I need 808 drums and heavy bass.’ They came back to me with this instrumental that I have now, I was like ‘Yeah, that’s the one right there.'”

Williams also gave his thoughts about how he started to notice the chant catching on with crowds and especially before his match against Ilja Dragunov at last year’s NXT Heatwave event.

“When the beat dropped, the people right there were on beat with it [saying] ‘Whoop that Trick.’ If you look at my face a little bit, you see a little smirk. I was like ‘Oh shoot, we just started something.’ We went out there and had a banger match. I think that’s the day ‘Whoop that Trick’ went to a whole other level. Shoutout to the NXT crowd, man, there’s nothing like them.”

Drew McIntyre Comments on WWE Introducing New Women’s Midcard Title Would be “Absolutely Justified”

FOX News held a recent interview with Drew McIntyre. One of the topics discussed included McIntyre’s thoughts about his belief that it would be “absolutely justified” for WWE to introduce a new midcard championship for their Women’s division.

“That’s (WWE midcard women’s title) certainly something that’s going to come around in the near future, and you don’t just bring titles in for the sake of bringing titles (especially) if you don’t have the adequate depth on the roster. But now, to watch just how far the women’s revolution has come – the revolution is such a distant memory now. The women have been killing it for years now.

And they got that opportunity years and years ago, and since then, we’ve had so many people come in, and it’s gotten to a point where it’s not a case of you want to be after any women’s matches, you do not want to be after the women’s match anymore because they’re going to go out there, they’re going to kill it, the (crowds) are going to be burnt out, and you’re going to have to work really hard to get them. To watch the talent pool grow, the roster depth grow, and the characters, more importantly, connect with the audience, because if they don’t care about you, it doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman, nobody’s emotionally attached to you. You might as well just sit in the back and not go out there. There’s so many characters the women’s division has gotten over now. We’re at a point where if there’s a second title introduced, it’s absolutely justified.”
