More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for October 16th

The October 16th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership and a large increase in key demographic ratings and key demographic rankings. This week’s show was notable for Dynamite returning to their normal Wednesday night timeslot following last week’s show being preempted to a Tuesday night timeslot due to TBS’ 2024 MLB Playoffs commitments.

AEW drew 633,000 viewers and a 0.20 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was #10 place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s increases this week was due to a combination of Dynamite returning back to its normal Wednesday night timeslot and the large increases from their Over 50 demographic viewership and overall key demographic viewership groups, which its percentages were not given. This reportedly offset the very stiff sports competition from the 2024 MLB Playoffs and news competition from the Kamala Harris interview special on FOX News. This reportedly also offset AEW’s lead-in programming Big Bang Theory drawing its lowest ratings for a show since AEW moved to TBS. Meltzer reported that Big Bang Theory failed to chart meaning that it drew a 0.11 or less for its key demographic rating that night.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the Jesse Watters Primetime Kamala Harris interview special drew 4,296,000 viewers on FOX News, the 2024 MLB Playoffs NCLS Game 3 of Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Mets drew 5,882,000 viewers on TBS, the 2024 WNBA Finals Game 3 of New York Liberty vs. Minnesota Lynx drew 1,394,000 viewers on ESPN, the College football game of Western Kentucky vs. Sam Houston State drew 403,000 viewers on ESPN2, the NHL game of Buffalo Sabres vs. Pittsburgh Penguins drew 422,000 viewers on TNT, The Challenge drew 379,000 viewers on MTV, Expedition Unknown drew 1,202,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, Sistas Series drew 882,000 viewers on BET, and Real Housewives of Salt Lake City drew 360,000 viewers on BRAVO.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 262,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 43,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 30,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 143,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 46,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership skew was 71% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 29.7% in overall viewership and down 35.9% in key demographic viewership. AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 54.7% compared to the same week last year.
