More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for October 8th

The October 8th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a very large decline in overall viewership and a large decline in key demographic rating and key demographic rankings. This week’s show was notable for AEW being preempted to a Tuesday night timeslot, being the Dynamite Title Tuesday 2024 special, and for going partially head-to-head with WWE’s NXT show.

AEW drew 329,000 viewers and a 0.10 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was outside of the top 25.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines this week was due to a combination of AEW being preempted to a different night and timeslot and the stiff sports competition from the 2024 MLB Playoffs and also from WWE’s NXT show that night. Another reason reportedly was due to the very large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 71.4% compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that AEW’s overall viewership and key demographic ratings were both the lowest ever for a Dynamite show in Dynamite series history. Meltzer reported that AEW’s lead-in programming Big Bang Theory drew 823,000 viewers and a 0.13 key demographic rating.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 MLB Playoffs Game 3 of Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres drew 4,647,000 viewers on FS1, the 2024 WNBA Playoffs Game 5 of Connecticut Sun vs. Minnesota Lynx drew 984,000 viewers on ESPN2, the NHL Season Opening Night game of Boston Bruins vs. Florida Panthers drew 790,000 viewers on ESPN, WWE NXT drew 874,000 viewers on The CW, and the Real Housewives of NYC drew 350,000 viewers on BRAVO.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 128,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 20,000 viewers (down 67.2%), Females 18-34 had 2,000 viewers (down 88.9%), Males 35-49 had 78,000 viewers (down 44.3%), and Females 35-49 had 28,000 viewers (down 49.1%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership skew was 76.6% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 46% in overall viewership and down 63% in key demographic viewership. AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 84.3% compared to the same week last year.

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for October 4th

The October 4th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership and a slight key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 216,000 viewers and a 0.07 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was outside of the top 25.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for AEW’s decline that week was due to stiff sports competition and the large decline from their Over 50 key demographic viewership group, which its percentage was not given and older female key demographic viewership group, which was down 68.3% compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the large increase from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was up 59.1% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 WNBA Playoffs Game 3 of New York Liberty vs. Las Vegas Aces drew 994,000 viewers on ESPN2, the College football game of Michigan State vs. Oregon drew 2,842,000 viewers on FOX, the College football game of Houston vs. TCU drew 1,506,000 viewers on ESPN, On Patrol Live drew 604,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, and 90 Day Fiance First Look drew 319,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 95,000 viewers. AEW’s 18-34 had 24,000 viewers (up 20%), Females 18-34 had 11,000 viewers (up 450%), Males 35-49 had 47,000 viewers (down 6%), and Females 35-49 had 13,000 viewers (down 68.%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 74.7% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 40.8% in overall viewership and down 41.7% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 key demographic viewership was down 37.5% compared to the same week last year.

The October 5th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW suffer a very large decline in overall viewership and a large decline in key demographic ratings and key demographic rankings. That week’s show was notable for going head-to-head against WWE’s Bad Blood 2024 event that night.

AEW drew 268,000 viewers and a 0.05 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was outside of the top 25.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to a combination of the very stiff sports competition from the MLB Playoffs and College football, going head-to-head against WWE’s PLE event, and the very large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 72.2% compared to the prior week’s show. Meltzer reported that AEW’s overall viewership was the second lowest ever and their key demographic viewership was the lowest ever for a Collision show in its regular time slot in Collision series history.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 MLB Playoffs Game 1 of Kansas City Royals vs. New York Yankees drew 3,225,000 viewers on TBS, the College football game of Tennessee vs. Arkansas drew 5,291,000 viewers on ABC, the College football game of Michigan vs. Washington drew 4,039,000 viewers on NBC, the College football game of Baylor vs. Iowa State drew 1,204,000 viewers on FOX, the College football game of Colorado State vs. Oregon State drew 568,000 viewers on The CW, the College football game of Clemson vs. Florida state drew 1,411,000 viewers on ESPN, the College football game of USC vs. Minnesota drew 701,000 viewers on Big Ten Network, the College football game of Kansas vs. Arizona State drew 525,000 viewers on ESPN2, and On Patrol Live drew 650,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 72.1% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 23.8% in overall viewership and down 37.5% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 73% compared to the same week last year.
