Backstage Update on Carlito’s Controversial “Chinese” Line on Monday’s WWE RAW Show

Monday’s WWE RAW show in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was notable for Carlito being involved in a controversial incident over a line he stated during his backstage promo segment with WWE RAW General Manager Adam Pearce.

During the show, Damage CTRL’s Kairi Sane and IYO Sky were seen talking to Pearce that was revealed to be about their recent issues with Meta-Four’s Jakkara Jackson & Lash Legend. As they left the room, Sane and SKY spoke to each other in Japanese leading to Carlito suddenly walking into the room and stated “I gotta learn Chinese.”

Carlito’s line quickly lead to online backlash directed at both Carlito and WWE over Carlito’s casual racism incident.

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that one WWE staff member spoken stated that Carlito’s line was something that was not scripted nor planned for him to say.

Sapp reported that those spoken to within WWE were stated to have been in disbelief over the line being said and many people in the company were not happy about it.

Carlito’s controversial line was removed from WWE’s official clips of the segment on social media and the segment in general was cut to start just after his line.

Sapp reported that it is currently not known if WWE officials have taken any action nor is it known if there is specially any “heat” on anyone regarding the situation.
