AEW held an abbreviated post-show media scrum following Saturday’s AEW WrestleDream 2024 event at Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington.
Some of the notable highlights included:
- AEW commentator Tony Schiavone led the press scrum and stated that AEW CEO Tony Khan would not be appearing due to him going to the hospital after Jon Moxley’s group’s attack on Danielson as a storyline reason. The real reason is due to Khan needing to travel to the United Kingdom for the Jacksonville Jaguars game in London on Sunday.
- During her portion of the media scrum, “The Glamour” Mariah May was asked which contenders she is looking at for her AEW Women’s Championship. Following Schiavone stating Hikaru Shida and Britt Baker as possible opponents, May responded stating that she already beat them. May then mocked the media for their lack of questions and left.
- During his portion of the media scrum, Swerve Strickland gave his thoughts about a potential future match with Shelton Benjamin. Strickland stated “I’m still not 100%, but I am getting a clean bill of health to keep moving forward. No better way to do that than come back to WrestleDream, where honestly this whole push really started. Last year’s WrestleDream was really the rocket ship to get me to the main event and World Championship.”
- On the topic of how working for DEFY helped shape his wrestling career, Strickland stated that it was huge for him and named people like Nick Wayne, Brody King, and Darby Allin becoming stars through their work in the company. Strickland also talked about how PROGRESS Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling ended up working with DEFY as a result. Strickland also stated that working on DEFY helped him learn how to become a star.
- On the topic of if his feud with Hangman Adam Page is over, Strickland stated that while things may be largely finished, there might be a small piece inside that isn’t finished with him. Strickland stated that Page can have his unsanctioned victory as he will take the two sanctioned victories over him.
- During their portion of the media scrum, Konosuke Takeshita responded to a question about how it felt to be cheered stating that he is the Alpha and promised to defend his newly won AEW International Championship across the world. Don Callis responded mocking the Wrestling Observer’s Vinny Verhei for giving a “Producer Rob-level question.”
- On the topic of when he decided to become a professional wrestler, Takeshita didn’t really answer the question and talked about how wrestling is a sport and it is the all-time best sport. Callis responded mocking the Wrestling Osberver’s Bryan Alvarez for being a “stooge.”
- On the topic of where he would defend his new AEW International title, Takeshita stood up from his seat and pointed to all of the flags on the title belt. Callis gave another insult and the two proceeded to leave but not before Callis and Schiavone traded some insults barbs.
- On the topic of AEW’s new media rights deal and his future in AEW, Schiavone stated “We’re very very excited about our renewal with Warner Brothers Discovery and Fox Sports Mexico. We’re very very excited about that. I’m personally excited that my long-time career is going to continue for at least another four to five years or so. I’m honored to be here.“
