As noted before, the upcoming Mr. McMahon docuseries based on former WWE and TKO Executive Chairman Vince McMahon will be premiering on Netflix on Wednesday, September 25th. McMahon released an official statement on Monday claiming that the producers for the upcoming series purposely misrepresented and created a deceptive portrayal of the “Mr. McMahon” character and his true self.
Puck’s Matthew Belloni reported that two sources spoken to stated that McMahon had tried to purchase the Mr. McMahon docuseries from Netflix after watching early footage of it.
Belloni reported that McMahon had Endeavor and TKO Group CEO Ari Emanuel chime in on his behalf and also voiced his concern to Netflix about the documentary’s treatment of McMahon’s alter ego.
Netflix reportedly “refused to let the project go, and then this past January, the worse McMahon scandal broke, when a former employee sued alleging terrible abuse.”
Bryan Alvarez reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources stated that several Netflix officials were trepidatious about the recent 10-year media rights deal they signed with WWE following the Janel Grant lawsuit and allegations against McMahon. These officials reportedly had not been high on wanting a deal with WWE but they signed it and went with it in the end.
