More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for August 28th

The August 28th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a slight decline in overall viewership and key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 697,000 viewers and a 0.23 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 1st place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines that week was due to the large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 11.5% compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the gains from their Over 50 key demographic viewership group, which its percentage was not given, and their older key demographic viewership group, which was up 1% compared to the prior week’s show. Meltzer reported that AEW’s lead-in Big Bang Theory drew 888,000 viewers and a 0.15 rating.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 303,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 67,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 33,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 138,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 65,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership skew was 67.3% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 20% in overall viewership and down 22.1% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 24.8% compared to the same week last year.

The September 4th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a small decline in overall viewership, key demographic ratings, and key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 660,000 viewers and a 0.19 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 5th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines that week was due to the large declines from their older key demographic viewership group, which its percentage was not given. This reportedly offset the large gains from their younger key demographic viewership group, which its percentage was not given. Meltzer reported that AEW’s lead-in Big Bang Theory rating was a 0.08 and the lowest ever for an episode in series history. Meltzer reported that the previous record was a 0.12 rating for the Big Bang Theory and that night was generally bad overall for TBS for ratings.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the Donald Trump interview special drew 4,445,000 viewers on FOX News, the 2024 NFL Kickoff Eve Special drew 1,558,000 viewers on NBC, the 2024 US Open Quarterfinals drew 1,356,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB game of Cleveland Guardians vs. Kansas City Royals drew 303,000 viewers on FS1, Expedition X drew 818,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, The Challenge drew 479,000 viewers on MTV, Million Dollar List Los Angeles drew 454,000 viewers on BRAVO, and Pawn Stars drew 461,000 viewers on History Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 259,000 viewers.

The August 30th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership and a small decline in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 218,000 viewers and a 0.07 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night is currently not known.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to stiff sports competition from College football that night and the very large decline from their overall key demographic viewership group, which was down 26.9% compared to the prior week’s show. Meltzer reported that AEW’s overall viewership was the second lowest ever for a Rampage show in its normal timeslot in Rampage history.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 Summer Paralympics Games Opening Ceremony drew 1,193,000 viewers on NBC, the College football game of Temple vs. Oklahoma drew 1,651,000 viewers on ESPN, the College football game of Florida Atlantic vs. Michigan State drew 744,000 viewers on Big Ten Network, and 90 Day Fiance First Look drew 301,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 95,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 64.2% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 41.3% in overall viewership and down 34.5% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 42.9% compared to the same week last year.

The August 31st episode of AEW Collision saw AEW suffer a very large decline in overall viewership and a small decline in key demographic ratings. That week’s show was notable for taking place on the same day as WWE’s Bash In Berlin event but did not go head-to-head against it.

AEW drew 289,000 viewers and a 0.10 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 19th place.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to a combination of the usual trend of Collision almost always suffering a large decline whenever WWE holds a PLE event on the same day and the stiff sports competition from College football that night. Another reason reportedly was due to the large declines from their Over 50 viewership group, which its percentage was not given, and overall key demographic viewership group, which was down 17.8% compared to the prior week’s show. Meltzer reported that AEW’s overall viewership was the lowest ever for a Collision show in its normal timeslot in Collision series history.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the College football game of Notre Dame vs. Texas A&M drew 7,918,000 viewers on ABC, the College Football game of UCLA vs. Hawaii drew 1,134,000 viewers on CBS, the College football game of Fresno State vs. Michigan drew 2,559,000 viewers on NBC, the College football game of Idaho State vs. Oregon State drew 381,000 viewers on The CW, the College Football game of Western Kentucky vs. Alabama drew 1,849,000 viewers on ESPN, the 2024 US Open Third Round drew 677,000 viewers on ESPN2, the Baseball Night in America baseball game drew 2,040,000 viewers on FOX, and Forbidden Love drew 236,000 viewers on TLC,

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 139,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 19,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 24,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 71,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 25,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 64.7% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 13.6% in overall viewership and down 3.5% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was up 2.4% compared to the same week last year. Meltzer reported that last year’s show had went head-to-head against WWE’s Payback 2023 event.
