AEW: Original Plans for AEW World Title at WrestleDream 2024, Lucha Libre Tag Team Match Set for Jacksonville Jaguars Home Opener, Current Card for 9/14 AEW Collision Show

AEW’s Original Plans for AEW World Title Match at WrestleDream 2024

As noted before, this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Lexington, Kentucky featured Darby Allin agreeing to put his AEW World Championship title shot on the line in a match against Jon Moxley at this month’s Dynamite Grand Slam 2024 show.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that AEW’s original plans for Allin were for him to challenge Bryan Danielson for the AEW World title at this October’s WrestleDream 2024 event.

Meltzer reported that AEW officials had planned for Allin to win the AEW World title and be the one to retire Danielson’s full-time wrestling career at the event due to Allin being from Seattle and this year’s event taking place nearby in Tacoma.

Meltzer also reported that the reason why AEW officials changed their plans is due to the feeling that a Moxley vs. Danielson for the AEW World title at the event would be a bigger “money making” match and storyline angle.
