More on Hangman Page Burning Down Swerve Strickland’s Childhood Home Angle on September 4th Dynamite Show

As noted before, this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show featured Hangman Adam Page burning down the childhood home of Swerve Strickland. This was in response to Strickland revealing earlier in the show that he had purchased the home.

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated professional supervision was in place at all times during the filming of Page’s segment. Those spoken to within AEW reportedly stated that they were happy with how the angle was executed and the reception it has garnered so far.

It was reported that AEW officials had planned for months to do a burning of the house segment and opted to have it coincide the segment with Strickland recently announcing his new deal with the company. It was also reported that while Strickland still had over half a year left on his original deal, AEW officials reportedly saw the opportunity to bolster his storyline with Page by having his new deal publicly confirmed and for Strickland to mark the signing by purchasing his childhood home.

It was also reported that AEW officials plans for the burning of the home were kept as a closely guarded secret from others within the company. It was reported that numerous wrestlers both within and outside of AEW had reached out to Strickland to congratulate him on his purchase being unaware of what was to come. One wrestler spoken to reportedly stated that Strickland “kayfabed” them by thanking them after they had congratulated him.

In regards to Page committing arson on national television, it was reported that those spoken to stated that there are “storyline reasons planned” as to why Page hasn’t faced any repercussions so far.

AEW News & Notes

Saraya recently announced that her upcoming new memoir, titled Hell in Boots, is currently scheduled to be released in March 25, 2025.

As noted before, Powerhouse Hobbs has been out of action for AEW since this past April due to a knee injury. Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that Hobbs was in attendance backstage at this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In a recent interview with Luke James Chats, Bryan Danielson gave his thoughts about how he received a legal letter from WWE after he tried to file a trademark for his “Yes! Yes! Yes!” chant. Danielson stated “I applied for it, but then I got, it wasn’t necessarily a cease and desist. I got some sort of legal letter from WWE. It’s really weird because my manager texted me and said, ‘Hey, this thing is available, do you want to get it?’ I was like, ‘How much does it cost?’ It wasn’t that much. ‘Okay, sure.’ Shortly after that, I got an email from WWE saying, ‘This is infringing on this or that or whatever.’ I’m like, ‘I’m not trying to sell anybody anything. I just do my thing.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with Fightful, Daniel Garcia gave his thoughts about the reaction he received for his surprise return from “injury” and costing MJF his AEW American Championship in revenge at AEW’s All In 2024 event. Garcia stated “It feels like a weight lifted off your shoulders. You’re sitting at home for six or seven weeks. You’re nervous, you’re watching the show every week. Do people remember me? Are people going to remember who I am? Do people care? Am I who I think I am? You go out there and take a mask off and get one of the loudest reactions of the night. It feels like a weight off your shoulders. It feels amazing. It felt like a huge release of energy of 50,000 people. It was a great moment that I will remember forever.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent issue of the Mone Mag fan newsletter, Mercedes Mone gave her thoughts about her upcoming match against Hikaru Shida for the TBS Championship at AEW’s All Out 2024 event. Mone stated “At All Out in Chicago this Saturday I’ll be facing my rival, Hikaru Shida. She won a fatal four AEW Collison match beating Thunder Rosa, Serena Deeb and Queen Aminata, pinning Aminata to secure her opportunity to face me again. This will be a rematch between us, but I really liked my first battle with her back at AEW Dynamite in August. She is another Japanese wrestler, a martial artist and a three-time AEW Women’s World Champion. For reasons I already said, she is going to be tough competition. However, facing someone for the second time, makes the match even more interesting. The first time you face someone, you kind of feel them out. But the second time you’re able to counter a lot of your opponent’s moves. I know that Shida’s slogan is that she is THE ACE of AEW, but I’m the CEO and I’m going to show her that ‘I’ am now the face of TBS. Chicago here I come!

In a recent interview with Q101, Orange Cassidy stated that rock band Jefferson Starship initially did not want him to use their “Jane” song for his entrance music in AEW. Cassidy stated “So, because it’s a music station, I guess I can get into it a little bit. Before I was on AEW, I was coming out to ‘Jane’ by Jefferson Starship, and I just loved it because I loved the movie Wet Hot American Summer and I like the way it started with that. When I got to AEW, Jefferson Starship’s like, ‘No. We’re not letting you use that for this guy,’ and because Tony Khan is who he is, he’s like, ‘We’re gonna get another one,’ and I was like, ‘I mean, you don’t have to. I can just get a custom one.’ He’s like, ‘No, no. We’re gonna –’ we were late one night and on the fourth floor of the hotel we were staying at after a show and just talking about stuff and he came up with the Pixies or maybe it was Chuck Taylor. I’m not sure. I wanna say it was Tony because that’s probably a better answer to say — I’m pretty sure it was him — that he suggested the Pixies and they reached out and Pixies was like, ‘Sure. We’ll do it…’ Then there was an article on Pitchfork saying like, oh, ‘This new wrestler is coming out to the Pixies.’ Jefferson Starship reached back out… And they said, ‘Hey, we’ll do something’ and now I have two very expensive theme songs.” (Transcript h/t: PostWrestling.com)

In a recent interview with The Ringer’s The Masked Man podcast, Ricochet gave his thoughts about if he feels like a top guy coming into AEW. Ricochet stated “The thing about Ricochet is the climb. I’m a big anime nerd. The Gokus, he didn’t start out as the guy, he started out as little Goku. Naruto, all these guys, they became the guy because of the story that built them up. Obviously, in some of these shows, for example, Dragon Ball Z, Goku got trained by Master Roshi. Do I want to come in and immediately be Master Roshi? Not necessarily. I like the build, the climb. I’ve always kind of felt like the new guy everywhere I go, I’ve always felt like the young guy everywhere I go, I’ve always felt for some reason that I’ve always had to prove myself everywhere I go, and maybe that’s what it is. Maybe I just feel like I gotta prove myself again, even though I feel like I’ve always proved myself over and over and over. Maybe that’s a little chip on my shoulder, but I think maybe that’s what it is. I feel like I am…I wasn’t the guy in WWE. I’m a main guy, but I want to prove that I am, I guess. I don’t know. I like the climb, I like the struggle.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with the Downunder The Ring podcast, Paul Wight stated that he is currently hopeful of being able to make an in-ring return for his career in AEW. Wight stated “God, I hope so (I can get back in the ring) because Tony Khan paid me a sh*t ton of money to get in the ring and so far, I haven’t done sh*t so… I did, I did (take a bump onto a car). Then right after that, I went and got my knee replaced. Thanks Will Hobbs (he laughed).” Wight also gave his thoughts about AEW CEO Tony Khan purchasing the rights to the Captain Insano character for Wight to be able use in AEW and how he wants to end his in-ring career similar to Sting. Wight stated “I have heard from him (Captain Insano). I heard his fat-ass had a knee surgery a couple of months ago but is hoping he’ll be back real soon and definitely I hope he’s gonna compete in February here in Brisbane. So, yeah, a lot of that was intellectual property and Tony Khan actually — because I lost The Big Show. That’s WWE intellectual property, which is tough when you build a brand for 20 years but it’s business. I understand. It is what it is. But, building yourself a new identity is like starting all over. People always gonna identify you as one thing. Yeah! I’m not that guy anymore. I’m this other guy. Captain Insano is a pretty cool gift. Tony Khan worked it out, got the intellectual property rights for me. So, we’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on that and I’ll be honest, a lot of it’s been my fault. Having surgeries and stuff like that so, it’s about me getting in the gym, training, getting ready where I feel comfortable because it’s basically a one-shot run. I can’t pull the trigger on this half-assed and go out and fail. When I pull the trigger on Captain Insano, it’s gonna be 100 percent. We run that till the wheels fall off and then we ride off into the sunset… I just wanna make sure that when I bring that character out, whatever Tony asks me to do, I can do. Whether it’s tag, singles, working twice a week, three times a week. Whatever it is, I’m able to do it so, that’s why I really haven’t been doing a lot of things on AEW because being the awesome boss that Tony Khan and he’s giving me the time to basically get my sh*t straight and get ready for it. I mean, believe me, there’s an unbelievable amount of pressure on myself to get this done and get this in a way where the fans are appreciative of seeing me compete again and not like a, ‘Oh, that sucks. Shoot him. Put him out of his misery.’ Like old yeller. Take me out back and put me down. I don’t wanna get put down yet. I kind of wanna go out like Sting did. Have a nice little run. Have some great matches, work with some of this amazing, young talent we have in AEW and then, slide out. That goal accomplished and then, I’ll move to New York and become a world-famous playwright. It’s a joke, because I can’t spell… Grand Slam: Australia and hopefully Captain Insano will have a match and we’re actually gonna see a 400-pound guy in spandex… So let me correct that. A sexy, good-looking, bald, 400-pound guy in spandex. I mean, that’s my opinion, but you know…” (Transcript h/t: PostWrestling.com)
