AEW: Lucha Bros AEW Contract Update, Tony Khan on Danielson vs. Strickland Match Being “One Of The Greatest Moments” of My Life, Samoa Joe Featured in New Like a Dragon Video Game

Lucha Bros Expiring AEW Contracts Status Update

As noted before, The Lucha Brothers’ Penta El Zero Miedo’s contract with AEW is currently set to expire between this August and September while Rey Fenix’s contract is currently set to expire this September. The Lucha Bros were believed to have recently signed official contracts with WWE but this was later debunked.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that while the Lucha Bros have not been backstage at AEW events of late, one source close to the Lucha Bros stated that the Lucha Bros have been in recent communication with AEW. This same source reportedly also stated that the Lucha Bros have told AEW officials that they are available to wrestle and work at shows if needed by the company.

Johnson reported that the current expectation is that the Lucha Bros will still be leaving for WWE once their contracts with AEW expires.

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that his sources confirmed Johnon’s report about the Lucha Bros have yet to sign any contract with WWE.

Sapp reported that those within AEW stated that they believe Fenix still has time left on his contract with the company and making it legally impossible for him to have come to terms with WWE for a new deal. Sapp reported that none of thsoe spoken to within AEW have confirmed the exact status of Fenix’s contract but both Fenix and Penta are still listed on AEW’s official roster page.

Sapp also reportedly that the current expectation from those spoken to is that the Lucha Bros will be leaving for WWE and likely will go straight to WWE’s main roster for their official debut in the company.

AMNY held a recent interview with AEW CEO Tony Khan. One of the topics discussed included Khan’s thoughts about AEW’s incredible year of 2024 and how the Bryan Danielson vs. Swerve Strickland match for the AEW World Championship at AEW All In 2024 was one of the greatest moments of his life.

“This year alone we’ve had so many of our best moments. We had the AEW World Tag Team Championship, when Sting and Darby Allin defeated the Young Bucks to become the World Tag Team Champions. Sting and Darby Allin, they retired undefeated. It was one of the greatest matches ever and I think it was one of the greatest nights of my life to have at Revolution in Greensboro,” Khan recalled. “I gotta say, maybe one of the greatest moments of my life personally was when Bryan Danielson wrestled the great champion Swerve Strickland at Wembley Stadium and Bryan Danielson became the AEW world champion. That was amazing.”
