AEW: Adam Copeland Fractured Tibia Injury Update, Kyler Fletcher vs. Kazuchika Okada for AEW Continental Title Set for 9/4 Dynamite Show, More News

Adam Copeland Fractured Tibia Injury – No Timetable Yet for Potential Return

As noted before, Adam Copeland has been out of action for AEW since this past May’s Double or Nothing 2024 event due to a fractured tibia injury and surgery.

Sports Illustrated held a recent interview with Copeland. One of the topics discussed included Copeland’s thoughts about his dive off of the steel cage during his match against Malakai Black for the TNT Championship that led to him breaking his tibia.

“No (I did not think of changing the match around after suffering leg injury at Double or Nothing). Once I realized I could run and move, I was like, this would be fine. I knew what we had planned too. We had worked hard to make that moment with Gangrel happen. I didn’t want to call an audible and throw that away. I was like, I can see this through. No big deal. Once I got to the E.R. that night, Darby (Allin) and I walked in together. He’s wearing his oversized faux fur coat with his face all smashed up with thumbtacks in his nose, and I’m limping in, and I go, ‘Look at us.’”

Copeland also provided an update on the status of his recovery from his injury.

“It (my leg) feels really good. I got the surgery. I guess it was June 1st, by the time I finally got the surgery done. So I guess yesterday was three months. I’ve never broken my leg before, so I didn’t know what that entails or what that entailed. With my Achilles, it was a process. This is not that which is good, because the Achilles, I was working eight hours a day on that thing. It became a full-time job and I got back in six months. But it was a lot of grinding of teeth. This isn’t that more than anything. It’s trying to get the power back and flexibility from bringing your toes to your knee. That’s the last area that doesn’t want to go yet because the plate goes down to the ankle because it was a lower fracture. It was a lower tibia fracture, so the plate butts up against that ankle bone. I think that’ll be what I need to get through in order to be able to get all of that power back. I don’t know what a time frame is. I don’t know any of that. I know that now I can walk, get in the ring, and move around a little bit, but I still feel the deficiency. So, I know I still have some work to do to return to where I need to be.”

AEW News & Notes

In a recent interview with CBS Sports, Ricochet gave his thoughts about Will Ospreay publicly advocating for him and taking issue with WWE’s booking of him while he was still with the company. Ricochet stated “To see him so verbally advocate for me is awesome. I think for a long time Ricochet hasn’t had the opportunity to advocate for himself so it was really cool to have my homie do that for me.

In a recent interview with ESPN’s Sportscenter Australia, “Timeless” Toni Storm gave her thoughts about her loss to Mariah May for the AEW Women’s World Championship at AEW’s All In 2024 event and being hopeful of havign a rematch at AEW’s Grand Slam 2025 event in Australia. Storm stated “I hope that’s the case. I hope I get my rematch here against Mariah May. We did this on her turf last time in Wembley in London. I think it’s time to bring it home for me. I think it’s time to get back to Brisbane and beat the ever-loving crap out of her in front of all my family and friends and make my country proud.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent Q&A session on Instagram, Dax Harwood revealed that he currently has plans in motion to open a new wrestling school once he retires from his in-ring wrestling career. Harwood stated “So, my plans after being done in the ring are already in motion. I don’t know how much I can tell ya. But I can tell ya that there’s already a ring, there’s already a building, there’s already equipment and the idea is to obviously open a wrestling school with three of my friends. I’ll just leave it at that and you know, hopefully that will allow people to live a 20-year dream just like I did.” (Transcript h/t: PostWrestling.com)

During the same Q&A session, Dax Harwood gave his thoughts about who would be on his Mount Rushmore of tag team wrestling. Harwood stated “If I had to go off the top of my head for a Mount Rushmore of tag teams, I would have to say — and obviously, I’m gonna exclude us (FTR). But I’d have to say, obviously Rock ‘n’ Roll Express. I think Bobby (Eaton) and Dennis (Condrey), the greatest working tag team of all-time. I want to put Tully (Blanchard) and Arn (Anderson) there but the fact is they were only a team for a few short years but I’ll put Tully and Arn there, and maybe The Usos — excuse me, The Usos definitely should be there but I meant to say maybe The New Day. Someone wrote The Usos down here but Usos, any day of the week I could flip-flop. But maybe New Day. I think without The New Day, you wouldn’t have seen the resurgence of tag team wrestling. They were so key in helping us but, also to reintroduce tag team wrestling to a national mainstream audience.” (Transcript h/t: PostWrestling.com)

In a recent gaming stream on YouTube, Hikaru Shida gave her thoughts about her being happy to see that women’s main event matches for AEW shows has become more common and normalized in the company. Shida stated “I won the four-way match, and it announced the title match on AEW All Out next week. I also feel so happy that the women’s match got the main event [of Collision]. Actually, a few years ago my dream was doing the main event on a TV show, but these days it’s getting [to be] normal, right? I’m really happy about that.” (Transcript h/t: F4WOnline.com)
