More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for July 31st

The July 31st episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a very large decline in overall viewership, a large decline in key demographic ratings, and a slight decline in key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 609,000 viewers and a 0.18 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 8th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines this week was due to very stiff sports competition from the 2024 Summer Olympics Games and the very large decline from their older key demographic viewership group, which was down 46% compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that AEW’s overall viewership was the second lowest ever for a Dynamite show in its regular timeslot in Dynamite history, only behind the June 19th show. Meltzer reported that AEW’s lead-in Big Bang Theory drew 758,000 viewers and a 0.10 rating which was the lowest ever for a show in series history.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 Summer Olympic Games drew 13,374,000 viewers on NBC and 1,273,000 viewers on USA Network, the MLB simulcast games of Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati and Pittsburgh vs. Houston drew 209,000 viewers on MLB Network, Expedition Unknown drew 744,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, and Sistas Series drew 807,000 viewers on BET.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 231,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 64,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 31,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 91,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 45,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership skew was 67.1% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 31.9% in overall viewership and down 43.1% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 32.1% compared to the same week last year.

  • 3Q – 593,000 overall viewers and 223,000 key demo viewers (The Learning Tree backstage interview segment and the CMLL Women’s World Championship Eliminator match of Kris Statlander vs. Willow Nightingale)
  • 4Q – 601,000 overall viewers and 237,000 key demo viewers (CMLL Women’s World Championship Eliminator post-match brawl segment, the Bryan Danielson & Jeff Jarrett backstage promo video segment, and the start of the Danielson promo segment)

The July 26th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW gain a large increase in key demographic rankings and a small increase in overall viewership.

AEW drew 306,000 viewers and a 0.10 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 13th place.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for AEW’s increases that week was due to the very large increase from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was up 75% compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the very stiff competition from the 2024 Summer Olympic Games that night and the large decline from their older key demographic viewership group, which was down 20.7% compared to the prior week’s show. Meltzer reported that of the Top 25 ranked cable shows that night, only Rampage and On Patrol Live were the non-news programs to be ranked on the list.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony drew 15,113,000 viewers on NBC, On Patrol Live drew 718,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, and 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After First Look drew 469,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 127,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 20,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 15,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 60,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 32,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 63% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 5.6% in overall viewership and down 0.8% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 16.7% compared to the same week last year.

AEW Rampage quarter hour viewership breakdowns were:

  • 1Q – 331,000 overall viewers and 149,000 key demo viewers (First third of the Royal Rampage match)
  • 2Q – 307,000 overall viewers and 128,000 key demo viewers (Second third of the Royal Rampage match)
  • 3Q – 308,000 overall viewers and 122,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Royal Rampage match and the Willow Nightingale video promo segment)
  • 4Q – 279,000 overall viewers and 108,000 key demo viewers (Kris Statlander vs. Leila Gray match, the Lance Archer vs. Alejandro match, The Outcasts backstage interview segment, and the Don Callis Family vs. Private Party vs. The Righteous vs. The Outrunners Four-way Tag Team match)

The July 27th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW suffer a very large decline in overall viewership, a large decline in key demographic rankings, and a small decline in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 382,000 viewers and a 0.12 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 15th place.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 159,000 viewers.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 48.3% in overall viewership and down 55.1% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 71.4% compared to the same week last year.
