As noted before, The Lucha Brothers’ Penta El Zero Miedo’s contract with AEW is currently set to expire between this August and September while Rey Fenix’s contract is currently set to expire this September. The Lucha Bros are currently expected to be joining WWE once their AEW contracts expire.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that his sources stated that the Lucha Bros potential move has been tumultuous so far.
In regards to the Lucha Bros pushing for a package signing deal, those spoken to stated that this would not be an issue for WWE due to the company had been interested in both Penta and Fenix. Sapp reported that those close to Penta stated that Penta claimed that he would be in Orlando this week but did not specifically say that he would be visiting WWE’s Performance Center.
Sapp also reported that those within AEW stated that they suspected something like this had happened. Sapp reported that AEW officials offered the Lucha Bros a new deal that was supposed to be the same as what Penta had claimed WWE was offering.
In regards to Penta’s current AEW contract status, Sapp reported that while details have yet to be confirmed, several sources spoken to stated that Penta has claimed that his AEW contract has already expired despite his profile is still on AEW’s roster page. Several sources spoken to reportedly stated that AEW could potentially add injury time to the Lucha Bros deal to extend the expiration of their contracts to a new later date.
In regards to Penta’s recent comments on Twitter about his status in AEW, Sapp reported that multiple sources spoken to stated that they believed the reason why Penta publicly pushed back on reports of the Lucha Bros’ departure plans was so that Fenix would be able to leave AEW more freely.
