Kenny Omega Diverticulitis Injury Status Update

As noted before, Kenny Omega has been out of action for AEW since this past January due to him suffering from diverticulitis and underwent surgery this past May for it. Omega made an in-person return appearance at the May 1st AEW shows in Winnipeg, which was notable for Omega getting physical in the ring during The Elite’s brawl with him.

Love Sports held a recent interview with Michael Nakazawa. One of the topics discussed included Nakazawa providing an update on Omega’s recovery from diverticulitis.

“To be precise, it is a disease called “diverticulitis of the large intestine,” and it is a nasty disease that can be fatal if it is not treated properly. Kenny became aware of his symptoms just after a match in Canada, where his parents live. He was suffering from severe abdominal pain and was unable to enjoy his trip home at all, and the pain did not subside even after he returned to his home in Orlando, Florida. I accompanied him to the hospital at that time, and it turned out that he was so seriously ill that the doctor told him that he would have been in danger if he had come a few days later.
Fortunately, he was able to find a good doctor who could treat it without opening his abdomen, and just recently he underwent surgery and is currently recovering. However, it seems that the surgery involved removing about 25 cm of the affected colon, and he is now unable to put strength into his abdomen. However, I was impressed when I saw him walking on his own, even though it was a major surgery that would normally make it difficult for him to walk. By the way, Kenny has a cat named Dobby, and since he couldn’t bend down to clean his litter box, I went over there and helped him (laughs).
(Laughs) After that, little by little, he has been able to do physical training. He is still not able to lift the same weights as before, so he is trying to find the best training that he can do while incorporating rehabilitative elements such as walking and exercising in the pool, and he is working hard toward recovery. He is trying to find the best training he can do at the moment.”

Nakazawa also gave his thoughts on a potential return date for Omega still being uncertain.

“That’s right. Since there is no power in the abdomen to begin with, there is a concern about whether or not one can perform in such a state. The impact is physically quite strong, so you never know how it will affect your internal organs. So I can’t say anything about when he will be able to return to work.”

More on AEW Holding All In 2025 Event in Arlington

As noted before, AEW announced on Thursday that they will be holding next year’s All In event on July 12, 2025 at the Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that AEW officials started making major considerations for holding an All In event outside of London as far back as several months ago. It was reported that one reason for making the announcement before All In 2024 was to avoid creating any unrealistic expectations for an announcement at this year’s show. In regards to All In returning to London in 2026, it was reported that a return to Wembley Stadium for the 2026 event could still happen.

In regards to AEW’s recent Path to All In Summer Series residency deal, it was reported that AEW bringing an All In event to Arlington was part of their grander deal with the city. It was also reported that AEW COO Kosha Irby’s efforts to make this deal happen was applauded by both city officials and people within AEW.

It was also reported that AEW had yet to finalize the deal to bring an All In event to the city when they had first reported about AEW planning to hold a major stadium event in Texas for next year.

It was also reported that AEW officials had kept their talent in the dark about the announcement until it was made publicly. This reportedly was done by AEW officials to keep the information close to the vest and to prevent leaks. Multiple talents reportedly knew that they were being brought to Dallas this week but had not been informed of the actual reason for the trip beforehand.

Thursday’s MLB game between the Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers at Globe Field Life in Arlington, Texas featured Swerve Strickland, Mercedes Mone, and Darby Allin throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

Fullham F.C. announced that they have recently signed a partnership deal with AEW to be the official front shirt sponsor for their Fullham FC Women’s team for the 2024-2025 season.

AEW recently released the Bryan Danielson wrestling career tribute video that aired on this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show.

In a recent interview with Sun Sport, Bryan Danielson gave his thoughts about if winning the AEW World Championship at AEW All In 2024 would be the biggest moment of his wrestling career. Danielson stated “Yeah, 100%. I think, even if I lose, it still feels like the biggest moment of my career. One of the things…my daughter has gotten to see me wrestle, but it was when she was two and she doesn’t remember it. They’ve seen me wrestle on TV, but they’ve never seen me wrestle from a seat and there. Doing it at Wembley Stadium, win or lose, this feels like the biggest match of my career. In a recent interview with TV Insider, AEW CEO Tony Khan gave his thoughts about AEW’s residency stay in Arlington, Texas. Khan stated “I think we found something very special around Arlington’s Esports Stadium in Texas. There is magic in the building and magic in those fans. I would love to keep doing more shows there and having major events there. And if there are other great wrestling markets, legendary wrestling markets that could sustain that kind of excitement week after week, I would love that. We found something very special there in Texas.“

In a recent issue of the Mone Mag fan newsletter, Mercedes Mone gave her thoughts about the comparisons of her preparations for her matches at WWE’s WrestleMania events compared to her upcoming match against Britt Baker at this month’s AEW All In 2024 event. Mone stated “Honestly, the week of prep for All In kind of feels the same as Mania. However, when you’re prepping for WrestleMania, you’re kind of worn down by the time you get to the big day, as each day is stacked with press and events. The big difference is that the WWE is in town for a whole week during their event, where we’re not in the UK yet. I’m not sure what press and events we will be doing next week, but I’ll be sure to do as much as I can to ensure this is promoted as much as possible. I’m sure I’ll go without sleep for part of it, but it comes with the turf. A lot of times in WWE, by the day of WrestleMania, a lot of the boys and girls would be so tired, like I said, but by match time, the adrenaline would kick in. The fan screaming and cheering wakes you up.“

In a recent interview with WrestleTalk, MJF gave his thoughts about QT Marshall’s recent comments about the biggest misconception about AEW is that the “inmates run the asylum.” MJF stated “I’m going to be totally transparent here. I don’t feel this is me breaking the fourth wall at all, which is why when ‘things get leaked.’ It’s unfortunate because 99.99999% of the time it’s not true or completely blown out of proportion. The locker room has never been tighter. It’s never been a better work environment. This is based on everything I’ve been told. Nobody talks to me or hangs out with me, and I like it that way. It seems like everyone is unified, not just in hating me, but they all seem to be getting along. It seems like a genuine team effort right now and it seems like everybody believes in All Elite Wrestling and is trying to push All Elite Wrestling further.” MJF also gave his thoughts about AEW’s upcoming new media rights deal announcement. MJF stated “We are very close, from what I understand, in getting an answer on whether or not we’re going to get a major amount of money thrown our way from Turner. If we do, we are looking at the most successful professional wrestling company, besides WWE, ever. Why is that not spoken about? I’ll tell you why. That’s not how you guys make money. That’s not me throwing shade. I’m a star, I’m one of the biggest names in the industry, that’s a fact, because I’m a little bit of a lightning rod and a little bit controversial.
