Jon Moxley Makes Surprise Return & Teases New Boss of AEW on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite Show

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Champaign, Illinois featured Jon Moxley making his surprise return to AEW.

At the start of the show, Moxley’s entrance theme played and he made his way out from the crowd to the ring. This led to Tony Schiavone leaving the announcer’s table for an impromptu interview to find out why Moxley has return. Schiavone brought up how Moxley has been gone since Forbidden Door 2024 when he lost the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Moxley responded stating that he has been doing a lot of thinking since that night and he has been looking for a man who isn’t here tonight for a conversation that is long overdue. Moxley then called out Darby Allin and stated that Mox will not be hard to find.

Moxley then proceeded to start to leave the ring leading to Schiavone talking about what is scheduled for tonight’s show. Moxley then walked back right up to Schivaone and confronted him stating that it will take some time for everyone to wrap this around their heads but we can start tonight. Moxley then told Schiavone in a menacing tone that this is “not your company anymore” and left the ring as Schiavone looked on confused over what just happened.

In a follow-up segment, Moxley was seen walking backstage and was asked by an unseen person about what he meant earlier. Moxley responded in riddle before stopped by two backstage security personnel. Moxley stated that maybe it was time for a lesson in humility. This led to a mysterious woman showing up and laid out the security guys as Moxley watched on. This mystery person then turned around revealing herself to be Marina Shafir. Another security guard showed up attempted to interfere only to quickly back away and ran off. Shafir then turned her attention to the cameraman and shoved him to the ground.

Chicago Street Fight Stip Announced for CMLL Women’s Title Match at AEW All Out 2024

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show also featured one newly updated match for the card of AEW All Out 2024.

This newly updated match announced was a CMLL Women’s World Championship Chicago Street Fight match of Kris Statlander vs. Willow Nightingale (c).

This new stipulation was setup following a backstage interview segment with The Conglomeration, HOOK, and Nightingale. After Mark Briscoe congratulated HOOK on his victory over Chris Jericho for the FTW Championship, Nightingale responded talking about her upcoming match against Statlander for the CMLL Women’s title at All Out 2024. Nightingale revealed that their match will be held under Chicago Street Fight rules.

Swerve Strickland vs. Hangman Page Steel Cage Match Set for All Out 2024

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show also featured the first of three new matches announced for AEW All Out 2024

This new match announced was a Steel Cage match of Swerve Strickland vs. Hangman Adam Page.

This match was setup following an in-ring promo segment involving Strickland and Page. Following Page’s victory over Tomohiro Ishii, Strickland’s music played interrupting Page’s victory celebration. Strickland and Prince Nana came out and made their way to the ring and Strickland quickly confronted Page face-to-face. Strickland told Page that he should beat him into a bloody mess after what he did during his AEW World title match on Sunday but instead he is here to look him in the eye and tell him what a failure he is. Strickland insulted Page calling him a petulant child, failing over and over again. Strickland then stated that he may not have gold around his waist but he will always be known as a World Champion and everyone will know whose house this is. Page responded stating that Swerve is not a champion and brought up that Swerve has never beaten him on his own. After some more words, Page stated that he wants to lock everyone else out next time. Strickland responded accepting the challenge and issued one of his own calling for a Steel Cage match between them at All Out 2024.

Strickland then proceeded to insult Page some more asking him what kind of man he is and what Page gave up in the middle of the ring all those months ago. Strickland then talked about how he paid a visit outside his house and saw Page helping his wife out of the house and into a car before driving off to become a father for a second time. Strickland then talked about how Page was focused on being a family man while his focus was on winning the AEW World title. After some more insults about Page’s recent list of failures, Strickland asked Page what kind of man will he be at All Out and what kind of man is he doing to show up as? This led to Page becoming angry and stormed out of the ring in response.

Afterwards, this match was made official by AEW CEO Tony Khan for All Out 2024.

MJF vs. Daniel Garcia Announced for All Out 2024

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show also featured the second of three new matches announced for AEW All Out 2024.

This new match announced was a singles match of MJF vs. Daniel Garcia.

This match was setup following a promo and brawl segment involving MJF and Garcia. During the show, MJF came out to the ring and demanded for the crowd to quiet down since he is in so much pain after All In. MJF stated that if they don’t then he will jump over the barricade and beat up each and every one of them. After some more insults, MJF stated that he was denouncing his American citizenship except to stay in the most beautiful place on Earth, which he revealed to be his hometown of Plainview, Long Island, New York. MJF then turned his attention towards Will Ospreay and stated that he had the match won and when Ospreay eventually gets the top prize in the business, he will be there to ruin Ospreay’s life and he will enjoy it.

MJF then turned his attention towards Daniel Garcia and yelled out in anger over what Garcia did to him at All In. After some more threatening words, MJF stated that he promises to end Garcia’s life if he ever steps in an AEW ring again. This led to Garcia running out and attacked MJF from behind laying him out. Garcia attempted to hit a piledriver only to have second thoughts and looked at the corner in reference to what MJF did to him last time. Garcia then placed MJF on the top turnbuckle and attempted to hit a piledriver only to be stopped by security who rushed out to the ring. This led to Garcia laying out the security but was distracted long enough for MJF to attack Garcia from behind sending him into the corner. After some stomps by MJF, Garcia managed to get the upper hand again and attempted to hit a piledriver to MJF only for Interim EVP Christopher Daniels and more security rushing out to stop him and separate the two.

After MJF tumbled out of the ring and started to make his way to the back, Garcia grabbed a microphone and revealed that he had pawned off MJF’s Dynamite Diamond Ring in Buffalo to get a round-trip ticket to London to ruin the biggest moment of MJF’s life. Garcia then talked about how his mom had to see him get stretchered out the ring last time due to MJF and stated that he went to Tony Khan to get a match between them at All Out. Garcia stated that a match is not enough and he wants to drop MJF with a piledriver and break his neck. Garcia then chucked the microphone at MJF leading to MJF accepting the challenge and attempted to rush at Garcia before being stopped by security.

Later in the show, AEW CEO Tony Khan confirmed this match for All Out 2024.

Jack Perry vs. Bryan Danielson for AEW World Title Set for AEW All Out 2024

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show also featured the third of three new matches announced for the card of AEW All Out 2024, which takes place on September 7th at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

This new match announced was an AEW World Championship match of Jack Perry vs. Bryan Danielson (c).

This match was setup following a promo segment involving Danielson and Perry. During the show, Danielson came out to the ring to address the future of his wrestling career. Danielson talked about how after coming up short multiple times, he finally managed to win the AEW World Championship. Danielson stated that his daughter had told him that was the best day of her life although that may have been partly because of a ride on a Peppa Pig double decker bus ride. After becoming emotional talking about how his match and title win on Sunday was the biggest moment of his career, he brought up the question of “what’s next?” that was asked at the post-show press conference.

Danielson stated that his AEW contract has been up since August 1st and he has neck surgery coming up soon and his family is ready for him to come home. After some more words about how he had a lot of thinking to do since Sunday and thanking the company and everyone in it for their hard work, Danielson stated that he realized it is probably time for him to go home … but not yet. Danielson stated that he will not retire as AEW World Champion and he will fight for this title as hard as he can. Danielson stated that as soon as he loses this title, his full-time career is over and claimed that it won’t be any time soon since he has a lot of heads to kick in still. Danielson then issues an open challenge for his AEW World title at All Out 2024.

This led to Perry showing up on the big screen answering the challenge. Perry talked about the path he took to come back to AEW and brought up how he punched Tony Khan and making his own story by becoming TNT Champion. Perry stated that the last time he stood across the ring from Danielson, he pinned him despite being set on fire. Perry stated that his future is to retire the American Dragon and his and AEW’s future are one and the same. Perry then stated that Bryan’s future however is standing right behind him. This led to Perry attacking Danielson from behind revealing that his video promo was not live and just a ruse by him. Perry proceeded to lay out Danielson and posed with the AEW World title over Danielson’s fallen body as the show came to a close.
