AEW: Bryan Danielson on His Anything Goes Match with Jeff Jarrett, Top Flight vs. MxM Collection Match Rescheduled for 8/16 Rampage Show, More News

Bryan Danielson Comments on Having “So Much Fun” with His Anything Goes Match with Jeff Jarrett

A recent episode of The Nikki & Brie Show podcast featured Bryan Danielson as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Danielson’s thoughts about having a lot of fun with his Anything Goes match against Jeff Jarrett on the August 7th AEW Dynamite show.

“Jeff Jarrett is 56 or 57, so combined, we’re 100 years old. I had so much fun. It was so much fun. Jeff and I had never wrestled before, we were in one six man tag against each other. This is one of the things I marvel at. Wrestling has changed dramatically. Every decade it changes, entertainment changes, the world evolves. But there’s a real magic to some of the older wrestlers, like a part of the arm form has been lost. So when you’re in the ring with someone like Jeff Jarrett, it’s like, this is so much fun and it’s so cool.”

AEW recently announced that the previously scheduled tag team match of Top Flight (Darius & Dante Martin) vs. MxM Collection (Mason Madden & Mansoor) for the August 17th AEW Collision show has been rescheduled for the August 16th AEW Rampage show instead.

In a video posted by AEW, MxM Collection confronted Top Flight backstage and Mansoor stated that their match was cancelled and Madden clarified that it was the “good kind” of cancelled. Mansoor then stated that they could compete earlier and would be able to do so for this Friday’s AEW Rampage show. Top Flight accepted the challenge for a new date and this match was made official for Rampage afterwards.

The actual reason for the match date change is due to Mansoor is currently scheduled to travel to Mexico and work for CMLL this weekend.

In a recent interview with Kerrang, Bryan Danielson gave his thoughts about “Time Is Your Life” by Green Day would be his choice for a song to be played at his funeral. Danielson stated “That’s really hard. I like Time Of Your Life, that’s not a bad one. If I had more time to think about it, it’d maybe be a Kimya Dawson or a Frank Turner song, but I would really have to think about it. I’d probably have to think about it now in case something happens, right? My wife will be like, ‘Why are we playing Green Day at Bryan’s funeral?’ ‘He said it in an interview!’ (laughs)” In an interesting note, this is the same song that AEW will be playing for Danielson’s video package segment for tonight’s AEW Dynamite show in Norfolk, Virginia.

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Mariah May gave her thoughts about her upcoming match against “Timeless” Toni Storm at AEW’s All In 2024 event. May stated “It’s going to be a cinematic masterpiece. I’ve already taken Toni from black-and-white into technicolor. Wembley is her curtain call and a new start for me.” May also gave her thoughts about her current cinema-based storyline with Storm. May stated “I was a bit of a black-and-white film nerd growing up, especially as a teenager, so I knew all about it. I love theater, and I became obsessed with old black-and-white movies. I’d wake up, have a cup of tea, and watch. So it felt like a completely normal idea to me–it tied into my life. I wanted to draw from it, but never copy it black and white, no pun intended. I wanted to bring Mariah May into the story, that glamour. I don’t remember anyone getting beat by a shoe like I did to Toni.

Dax Harwood recently reflected on Twitter about Tuesday, August 13th being the 20th anniversary of his wrestling career debut. Harwood statedToday, 20 years ago, I wrestled my very first professional wrestling match. Friday the 13th, 2004. I’m trying to wrap my mind around it. 20 years?! I remember as a kid watching Bret Hart win the 1993 King of the Ring. I told my mom, I wanted to be a wrestler when I grew up. I was obsessed. I remember as a kid, walking to my friend’s house, passing a long stretch of bushes, and high fiving every leaf on the way, as if they were each a fan of mine, hoping one day that amount of people would love me. I remember as a kid, every single night, praying that God would allow me to become “a WWF, WCW, or ECW champion”. I remember as a kid having over 500 posters hanging on my walls and ceiling of all my favorite wrestlers in hopes of one day having a poster of my own. And it’s all lead to this. 20 years.

In a recent interview with the Keepin It 100 with Konnan & Disco podcast, QT Marshall gave his thoughts about the biggest misconception about AEW. Marshall stated “That the inmates run the asylum, like fully. The inmates running the asylum thing. There are talents that definitely talk to Tony (Khan) and they’ve earned that right to speak to him. Also, there are talents that probably haven’t, in my opinion, earned the right to talk to Tony, but his open door policy is almost too open. He’ll listen to them, sympathize and empathize, and he’ll make the best decision for the show. I think a lot of talents look in the mirror and see what they can be later on. ‘I think I can be The Rock.’ I’m just using that as an example. I should start by being whatever the fans sees first. Then, once we’re on the same page, we can take them on whatever ride we want. I only learned that not too long ago from someone else. I look at myself and think, ‘I can probably be a top guy.’ I might able to, but as of right now, I’m this guy who is friends with Cody and blah, blah, blah. Let’s start there and move on. When it goes to the inmates running the asylum, yes, they do have some say when they come up with stuff, but it’s not always (Tony) just says yes. All the way to Chris Jericho. He’ll say something and Tony will say, ‘No, we’re not going to do that because this is going on,’ and Chris will say, ‘Okay, that makes sense,’ or he’s going to fight it, the sense of, you’re always fighting a battle when you’re at work. At least, you tried. There are a lot of talents that don’t try and they’re just worried, and they’re probably the ones that go to the dirtsheets and say, ‘X person gets whatever they want. MJF writes his own stuff with Tony.’ MJF probably does talk to Tony a lot about his stuff. Also, he produces and does really well. The moment he doesn’t, I’m sure he’s going to lose…I’ve seen a lot of that too where talent tries to do their stuff and it doesn’t work.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
