Wes Lee Loses to Oba Femi & Questions His NXT Future at NXT Heatwave 2024
Sunday’s WWE NXT Heatwave 2024 event featured Oba Femi defeating Wes Lee to retain the NXT North American Championship. As a result of Lee’s loss, he is no longer allowed to challange for the title as long as Femi is champion due to the stipulation for their match.
Later in the show, a dejected Lee was interviewed backstage for his thoughts about his loss tonight. Lee responded stating that tonight was supposed to be the culmination of his plan to reclaim the NXT North American title but he failed. Lee stated that he was at a loss of words and questioned his future in NXT by stating that he needs some time to think and will see everyone again on Tuesday.

NXT Great American Bash 2024 Announced for This August
Sunday’s NXT Heatwave 2024 event also featured WWE announcing that this year’s NXT Great American Bash special will be taking place on August 6th.
It was also announced that this upcoming special will be airing on SYFY instead of NXT’s usual network home of USA Network. The reason for the network change is due to USA Network’s upcoming commitments with the 2024 Olympic Games.

Current Card for This Tuesday’s NXT Show
Sunday’s NXT Heatwave 2024 event also featured three new matches announced for the card of this week’s NXT show on July 9th.
All of these new matches were setup following promo segments throughout the show.
The first new match announced was a NXT Heritage Cup Championship match of Lexis King vs. Tony D’Angelo (c).
The second new match announced a singles match of Karmen Petrovic vs. Arianna Grace.
The third new match was a Four-way Tag Team match of The O.C. (Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows) vs. OTM (Lucien Price & Bronco Nima) vs. Gallus (Wolfgang, Mark Coffey, and/or Joe Coffey) vs. Tyson Dupont & Tyriek Igwe.
Besides the new matches, one new segment was also announced for next week’s show. This new segment was Wes Lee “addressing his NXT future.”

Sunday’s NXT Heatwave 2024 event also featured Ethan Page defeating Je’Von Evans, Shawn Spears, and Trick Williams in a Fatal Four-way match to become the new NXT Champion.

This was Page’s first championship victory of his WWE NXT career.
Joe Hendry Surprise Video Tease Airs at NXT Heatwave 2024
Sunday’s NXT Heatwave 2024 also featured TNA Wrestling Joe Hendry making a brief on-screen video appearance.
Following Ethan Page’s victory over Je’Von Evans, Shawn Spears, and Trick Williams for the NXT Championship, WWE aired the closing credits graphic for the show but before the screen faded to black, it cut to a quick video featuring Hendry being briefly shown.

This was Hendry’s first appearance in WWE’s NXT brand since the June 18th NXT show.
