More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for July 24th

The July 24th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a slight decline in overall viewership and key demographic ratings. This week’s show was notable for being the Dynamite Blood & Guts 2024 special.

AEW drew 786,000 viewers and a 0.26 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 7th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines this week was due to the large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 19.2% compared to last week’s show. This reportedly offset the gain from their older key demographic viewership group, which was up 7.3% compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that AEW’s lead-in Big Bang Theory drew 902,000 viewers and a 0.18 rating.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the President Joe Biden National Address drew 5,880,000 viewers on ABC, 3,710,000 viewers on NBC, 3,390,000 viewers on CBS, 1,61,000 viewers on FOX, 5,120,000 viewers on FOX News, 3,310,000 viewers on MSNBC, and 2,340,000 viewers on CNN, the MLB game of New York Mets vs. New York Yankees drew 1,412,000 viewers on ESPN, Expedition Unknown drew 1,035,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, and Sistas Series drew 835,000 viewers on BET.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 347,000 viewers.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 12.5% in overall viewership and down 9.4% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 39.8% compared to the same week last year.

The July 19th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership and key demographic rankings and a slight decline in key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 284,000 viewers and a 0.10 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 21th place.

Detailed key demographic viewership breakdowns were not available in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to a combination of very stiff news programming competition and the very large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 51.2% compared to the prior week’s show. Meltzer reported that 16 of the Top 20 shows that night were news-related shows.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 WNBA All-Star 3-Point & Skills Challenge drew 695,000 viewers on ESPN, On Patrol Live drew 864,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, and 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After First Look drew 340,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 136,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 10,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 10,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 80,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 36,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 66.2% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 31.6% in overall viewership and down 7% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 52.4% compared to the same week last year.

  • 1Q – 334,000 overall viewers and 155,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Conglomeration vs. Undisputed Kingdom Trios match)
  • 2Q – 295,000 overall viewers and 144,000 key demo viewers (Ending of The Conglomeration vs. Undisputed Kingdom Trios match & post-match brawl with the Don Callis Family & Mark Briscoe, the Outcasts backstage interview segment, and The Learning Tree vs. The Outrunners tag team match)
  • 3Q – 289,000 overall viewers and 125,000 key demo viewers (Minoru Suzuki vs. The Butcher match, The Conglomeration backstage interview segment, and the Kris Statlander vs. Syndi Winnell match)
  • 4Q – 239,000 overall viewers and 119,000 key demo viewers (Private Party vs. Lucha Brothers tag team match)

The July 20th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership and key demographic rankings and a slight gain in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 472,000 viewers and a 0.15 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 5th place.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for AEW’s increases that week was due to the very large gain from their Over 50 demographic viewership group, which its percentage was not given. Another reason reportedly was due to the large increase from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was up 8.1% compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the stiff sports competition from the 2024 WNBA All-Star game and news programming competition that night, which Meltzer reported that 20 of the top 25 shows that night were news-related shows.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 WNBA All-Star game drew 3,440,000 viewers on ABC, the MLB game of Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Dodgers drew 2,121,000 viewers on FOX, the MLB simulcast games of Houston vs. Seattle and San Fransisco vs. Colorado drew 147,000 viewers on MLB Network, UFC Fight Night drew 588,000 viewers on ESPN, and On Patrol Live drew 836,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 193,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 46,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 21,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 99,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 27,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 75.2% in favor of males. Meltzer reported that AEW’s male skew was among the highest ever for an AEW or WWE show.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 23.6% in overall viewership and down 18.6% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 31.6% compared to the same week last year.
