Tony Khan Comments on Potential of AEW Holding US Stadium Event in 2025

Ring of Honor held a post-show media scrum following Friday’s ROH Death Before Dishonor 2024 event in Arlington, Texas featuring ROH owner and AEW CEO Tony Khan as one of the speakers.

One of the topics discussed included Khan’s thoughts about the potential of AEW holding a stadium event in the United States in 2025.

“It’s speculative to talk about. Certainly, nobody ever thought we would sell over 81,000 tickets at Wembley Stadium. Time after time, whether it was the very first AEW show where we did the fastest sell-out in the history of Las Vegas for pro wrestling, that’s something we had never done. I would say never count out AEW in any aspect of the pro wrestling business. We have amazed people from our very first show until right now. It’s amazing what AEW has done in five years. The leaps and bounds AEW has grown is really an amazing thing we’ve done. As far as AEW, we’ve never tried to do a stadium show in America. I do think you can never count AEW out. We’re building right now from the ground up.”

Update on Buddy Matthews Signing New AEW Contract

As noted before, Buddy Matthews recently signed a new contract with AEW to remain in the company for the foreseeable future.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources confirmed that Matthews had signed a new contract with AEW several months ago.

Meltzer reported that Matthews had tried to give his notice to leave at one point but AEW rejected his request since they were not going to release anyone just for them to go to WWE.

Meltzer reported that AEW CEO Tony Khan had offered a new very lucrative deal to Matthews for him to stay and Matthews agreed to it.
