Tony Khan Comments on Potential of AEW or ROH Holding a Future Event at Hammerstein Ballroom

SportsGrid held a recent interview with AEW CEO Tony Khan. One of the topics discussed included Khan’s thoughts about the potential of AEW or ROH running an event at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City in the future.

“Yes, I think that’s a very interesting idea. You know what’s interesting, I’ve never been to the Hammerstein Ballroom. I’d really like to go. I’d love to do it. I’ve seen great shows there. I think it’s a great venue. I’ve never been. But we also have these amazing relationships around New York, so it’s about right-sizing. I mean, for the right event, on the right night, it could make a lot of sense. And I’d imagine it would sell out very, very quickly because it’s not the biggest room. But it is a fascinating setup. It’s a really cool looking room. It’s got great acoustics and it’s a lot of fun from everything I’ve seen on television. I’d love to check it out in person. That’s a great point, it’s a great idea.

But I really think that, for us, the Hammerstein Ballroom could be a cool venue sometime. It’s a great idea. I haven’t thought that much about it, but that’s why I love talking to great wrestling fans about ideas.”

We have a great roster that we’re building up, and I think our women’s roster is stronger than it’s ever been right now today. And I’m really excited about that. So if we ever get to the point where we’ve got enough people tied together and the story makes sense, I think it would be great.” (Transcript h/t: F4WOnline.com)

As noted before, WWE talent Rhea Ripley was in attendance backstage at this past May’s Double or Nothing 2024 event in Las Vegas, Nevada. In a recent interview with the Gabby AF podcast, Serena Deeb gave her thoughts about seeing Ripley backstage at AEW’s event that night. Deeb stated “Anything is possible. It’s a cool place for the business to be at because for so long, it wasn’t like that, and it was very rigid, the very rigid lines of, ‘No, you can’t cross that,’ and now the lines are blurred. You mentioned Jordynne [Grace], I thought her match at that NXT pay-per-view was really good. I really respect her. She’s honestly somebody, yeah, I would love to get in there with Jordynne at some point. But I would say definitely number one is Rhea Ripley. When we were at the Performance Center together, we just had a really cool bond. I felt really close with her. I think of all the coaches, myself and Scotty 2 Hotty, we were kind of her people. I always had her back, I always tried to pep her up and encourage her. I know, and I’m not saying, ‘Oh, I knew,’ but I knew. I was like, this girl’s a star. Once she gets that right thing, forget about it, she’s gonna rise so fast, which she has. I actually saw her at Double or Nothing. I saw her, I couldn’t believe it when I saw her. I was completely shocked. We embraced each other, I gave her the biggest hug, and we seriously did not let go for like ten minutes. We were just standing there with our arms around each other. I cried multiple times. I told her, ‘I’m so proud of you, I knew it. You’ve persevered through so much.’ I love watching her. I think she’s the biggest star in women’s wrestling. I think her in-ring work is incredible, on top of all her character work. She’s number one. I told her that. In my personal opinion, she’s just operating at a level that, there’s a lot of great women, but she’s up here in my opinion. When I saw her, I was like, ‘I want to wrestle you so bad.’ I think for both of us, it’s a dream match, for sure.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
