  • During Saturday’s UFC 302 press conference in Newark, New Jersey, UFC President Dana White stated that he has not worked with WWE since their merger to form TKO Group. White stated “It’s very separate, I haven’t worked with them at all. I do what I do and they do what they do. They’re using some of the people from my team to help them in different areas business-wise but as far as putting on live events, WWE is very good at what they do and we’re very good at what we do, and that’s about as far as it goes with me.” White also gave his thoughts about the recent staff layofs at WWE. White stated “These cuts largely have to do with job duplication and they cut staff and have people doing similar jobs for both WWE and UFC, thus people from each side, but more the WWE side, are getting cut.” (Transcript h/t: F4WOnline.com)

  • As noted before, this past Friday’s WWE SmackDown show in Albany, New York featured AJ Styles giving a “retirement” speech only to lure Cody Rhodes into an ambush attack instead. Styles’ fake speech was in reminiscent of Mark Henry’s fake retirement speech and attack on John Cena in 2013. In a recent episode of the Busted Open Radio podcast, Henry gave his thoughts about Styles’ fake retirement speech resembling the one he did in the past in WWE. Henry stated “Mr. AJ Styles donned a blue jacket, and shook up the world. You talk about a historical moment. He trended. Not only did AJ Styles trend, but yours truly. I’m back. Of course, I never left. The fans know me. They understand what it is. I made retirements cool. Everyone that has ever retired since, they say, ‘He’s going to do a Mark Henry.’ When you coin a phrase, it’s pretty damn cool. Now, AJ Styles, as unbelievable of a job as he did, I’m going to have to get out the pink jacket, he’ll have to get the powder blue jacket, and we’ll have to do signings together. We have to get the in-person moment. I know both of those guys. They thought about it and said, ‘Let’s do it like Mark did it.’ They did the same exact posturing. Even to the point, after the clothesline and beatdown, he did the same posturing of standing over him just like I did. When they went outside to the floor, all bets were off, they did a great job. The execution of it, the camera angles that they took was incredible.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

WWE’s website WWE.com was hit with a “hacking attack” on Saturday resulting in the front page being altered and featured the headline of “hello” and a mysterious image being displayed. The front page also had featured a message from a mysterious person that read “hello. I’d like to tell you a story. A story about value. We often equate value with utilization. That is not the case. If a piece of currency is crumpled, ignored, and tossed to the side, does it lose its value? Of course not. It is simply in the hands of the ignorant. We often devalue ourselves as a result of the ignorance of those around us. Their words define us. I have been guilty of this myself. I have let the expectations of others determine my self worth. But once I realized my calling, the words of the naysayers began to fall on deaf ears. I am nobody. I am all of us. When you free yourself from the preconceived ideas of others…from the LIES…you become liberated. I accepted my calling. Only then was I able to set the others free. We followed the Words of the Red and now we see. I offer you one last chance at redemption. It doesn’t have to be this way. The cave can no longer exist. We are going to burn it to the ground. A massacre is coming.
  • In a recent interview with Bleacher Report, Rey Mysterio gave his thoughts about him being currently hopeful that WWE will hold a PLE event in Mexico within the next three years. Mysterio stated “I’m hoping that it happens in the next three years. I think my people deserve something as good as a PLE. I’m truly hoping. We have a huge stadium over there, Estadio Azteca, which I believe is being remodeled this year. I think the fans would go crazy. Mexico has always been an incredible crowd for wrestling and what better than to pay it off with WWE coming over there and giving them something as special as a PLE?
  • As noted before, Janel Grant recently paused her sex trafficking lawsuit against Vince McMahon on behalf of a request made by the United States Department of Justice, who officially launched their own investigation and joined the lawsuit as an “interested party.” Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Grant pausing her civil lawsuit for a criminal investigation is not unusual when it comes to lawsuits of this nature. Meltzer reported that EDA Law Firm attorney Eric Anderson who has been following the case closely stated to him that “It is not unusual for a stay in a civil litigation when there is a criminal proceeding. This is usually done so the Defendant is not in the awkward position of engaging in civil discovery, which could compel answers from a responding Defendant and be used against him in a criminal proceeding. Invoking the 5th Amendment privilege cannot be used against him in a criminal case, but in a civil case it absolutely can be given a negative inference. So a Defendant, to protect himself from a concurrent criminal proceeding can invoke the 5th, thereby endangering his defense in the civil proceeding or he can waive that right during the civil discovery process and thus waive it for the criminal proceeding. It is Hobson’s choice, and we routinely stay the civil proceeding to remove that dilemma. I would say this is bad news for Vince only to this extent: the Feds are serious about looking into a variety of allegations. And they will probably be looking into interviewing a slew of current and former WWE employees to do it. It is no guarantee that they will seek an indictment by any means. But it does mean that things that may have been done in the shadows may come to light soon.
