WWE Hall of Famer Sika Anoa’i, real name Leati Anoa’i, passed away earlier today at the age of 79.
Anoa’i’s passing was first announced by his nephew Jahrus Anoa’i on Facebook who stated that Anoa’i had passed away peacefully.
“It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of Former Hall of Famer, Polaivao Leati Sika Anoa’i. He passed away peacefully on June 25th. Sika was a celebrated figure whose contributions and legacy have left an indelible mark. His memory will live on through his achievements and the many lives he touched.
He was many things: a hard working father, a caring brother, a supportive uncle, and a proud grandfather. He was a cherished friend to many, a loving family member whose warmth and kindness knew no bounds, and an inspiration to countless individuals. Anoa’i’s career in wrestling spanned from 1973 to 1991 as was most known for being one half of The Wild Samoans with his real life brother Afa Anoa’i. Anoa’i was also known for his work in the NWA and WWE and also had notable stints in New Japan Pro Wrestling, Mid-South Wrestling, and Georgia Championship Wrestling.
Anoa’i is also known for being a member of the legendary Anoa’i wrestling family and as the father of Roman Reigns and late WWE wrestler Rosey.
Anoa’i’s wrestling career notable achievements and accolades included being a three-time WWE World Tag Team Champion, three-time Mid-South Tag Team Champion, two-time Stampede International Tag Team Champion, one-time NWA National Tag Team Champion, and inductions into the WWE Hall of Fame (2007) and Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame (2012).
