TNA Wrestling reportedly was hit with a wave of staff layoffs on Thursday by their parent company Anthem Media Group, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and PWInsider.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that Robert “RD” Evans had resigned from TNA this week along with other key people in company. Evans reportedly had been a key member of TNA’s Creative team prior to his departure from the company.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources confirmed TNA was impacted by a wave of layoffs on Thursday and provided additional details.
Johnson reported that the reason for the staff layoffs was due to recent financial cutbacks made by Anthem for TNA.
Among those reportedly laid off was TNA Creative Director Dave Sahadi. Prior to his departure, Sahadi reportedly had been with TNA for the past 18 years and had been their Creative Director since 2019. Sahadi reportedly had previously worked for WWE for a number of years in a similar Creative Director role.
In regards to Evans; departure, Johnson reported that the working relationship between Evans and the company had grown strained in recent weeks. One source spoken to reportedly stated that Evans had become “increasingly frustrated” over his issues with the company and had made the decision to leave. Several of those spoken to within TNA reportedly claimed that it was a mutual decision by both sides but Johnson speculated that Evans left on his own accord. Johnson reported that Evans’ departure was a separate situation and not related to TNA’s recent staff layoffs.
Johnson reported that TNA’s Live Events division was also affected with multiple departures confirmed to have taken place from that division. These departures reportedly were described to be done as part of a “restructuring” process and TNA officials are currently working on who will oversee that aspect going forward as they have yet to lock in plans beyond this summer. Johnson reported that as of Friday morning, TNA officials have not locked in plans for a location or venue for this year’s Bound For Glory event.
Johnson also reported that no TNA talents are currently believed to have been released as part of the recent layoffs affecting the company.
