More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for May 15th
The May 15th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership and a slight decline in key demographic ratings.
AEW drew 672,000 viewers and a 0.23 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 6th place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines this week was due to a combination of stiff sports competition that night from the 2024 NBA and NHL Playoffs and the large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 10.9% compared to last week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the continued erosion of AEW’s younger key demographic viewership, which drew 82,000 viewers and was down compared to the 150,000 viewers average from recent months ago. This reportedly offset the weaker than usual non-sports competition that night, which Meltzer reported that the second place entertainment show drew 373,000 viewers and a 0.11 rating, and the stronger than usual lead-in programming Big Bang Theory viewership, which drew 1,012,000 viewers and a 0.16 rating on TBS. Meltzer reported that AEW’s overall viewership was its lowest for a Dynamite show in its regular timeslot since the January 6, 2021 show and their key demographic viewership was the lowest since the June 24,2020 show.
In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 NBA Playoffs Game 5 of Dallas Mavericks vs. Oklahoma City Thunder drew 3,745,000 viewers on TNT and 515,000 viewers on TruTV, the 2024 NBA Playoffs Game 5 of Boston Celtics vs. Cleveland Cavaliers drew 3,383,000 viewers on TNT and 350,000 viewers on TruTV, the 2024 NHL Playoffs Game 5 of Colorado Avalanche vs. Dallas Stars drew 1,558,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB simulcast games of Philadelphia vs. New York Mets and Chicago Cubs vs. Atlanta drew 197,000 viewers on MLB Network, Survivor drew 4,713,000 viewers on CBS, My 600-LB Life drew 314,000 viewers on TLC, House Hunters Repack drew 657,000 viewers on Home & Garden TV, and Top Chef drew 498,000 viewers on BRAVO.
