More on AEW Dynamite Week 240 Viewership – May 8, 2024

More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for May 8th

The May 8th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a slight increase in overall viewership.

AEW drew 711,000 viewers and a 0.24 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 6th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s increases this week was due to the small increase from their overall key demographic viewership group, which was up 3.2% compared to last week’s show. This reportedly offset the very stiff sports competition that night from the 2024 NBA and NHL Playoff games, which were up 41.7% and 35.9% respectively in key demographic viewership compared to last week’s set of playoff games. This reportedly also offset the weak lead-in programming viewership from the Big Bang Theory, which drew 880,000 viewers and a 0.14 rating that night.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 NBA Playoffs Game 2 of Indiana Pacers vs. New York Knicks drew 4,338,000 viewers on TNT and 565,000 viewers on TruTV, the 2024 NHL Playoffs Game 2 of Boston Bruins vs. Florida Panthers drew 1,822,000 viewers on ESPN, the 2024 NHL Playoffs Game 1 of Edmonton Oilers vs. Vancouver Canucks drew 902,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB game of Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Cincinnati Reds drew 151,000 viewers on FS1, the MLB simulcast games of San Fransisco vs. Colorado and Seattle vs. Minnesota drew 103,000 viewers on MLB Network, Survivor drew 4,685,000 viewers on CBS, My 600-LB Life drew 297,000 viewers on TLC, House Hunters Repack drew 573,000 viewers on Home & Garden TV, and Top Chef drew 516,000 viewers on BRAVO.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 320,000 viewers.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 787,000 viewers for their fifth quarter while their quarter low was at 628,000 viewers for their eighth quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 18.9% in overall viewership and down 24.3% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 45.4% compared to the same week last year.
