Blair Davenport, Lyra Valkyria, & Ilja Dragunov Comments on Being Drafted to WWE’s Main Roster
As noted before, Monday’s WWE RAW 2024 WWE Draft Night 2 show in Kansas City, Missouri featured NXT talents Blair Davenport, Lyra Valkyria, and Ilja Dragunov being officially called up and drafted to WWE’s RAW and SmackDown brands.
Following the show, WWE held a digital exclusive backstage interview with Davenport discussing her thoughts about being drafted to the SmackDown brand.
“It does. I feel like this job’s the only thing I’ve ever felt like I was meant to do. I never really fit in doing anything else. I had so many different things before I had this. Just to see that now I’m a part of SmackDown, I can’t even, I’m on a wave of emotions right now. This is honestly everything I’ve ever wanted. I’ve made my family proud, I know I’ve made all my friends back home, everything I’ve felt behind on the journey, and it’s just really, really nice to see that everything I’ve sacrificed in a way is finally paying off.”
Davenport also gave her thoughts about her initial reaction to being drafted to WWE’s main roster.
“I was almost just like, is that me? Are they saying my name? I think Ilja [Dragunov], Carmelo [Hayes], Lyra [Valkyria], Kiana [James], they’re all such top-tier talent, and for me to be included in this draft, it means so much to me that I’m on par with those guys, and how they’re viewed.”
WWE also held a separate digital exclusive backstage interview with Valkryia discussing her thoughts about being drafted to the RAW brand.
“I’m very surprised, very surprised. I have to just say this, let me say it once, okay. Lyra Valkyria is WWE Raw. Lyra Valkyria is going to Raw.”
Valkyria also gave her thoughts about the “You deserve it” reaction she received from the NXT locker room following her draft pick announcement.
“It means absolutely everything to me. Thank you so much to everyone here. I can’t believe my NXT time is over. For real though, this does not feel real. I’m not sure my heart is beating, but to the women of the Raw locker room, I just have one thing to say. I’m a former NXT Women’s Champion. I’ve already conquered this world, and now on Monday nights, I’m coming to conquer yours.”
WWE also held a separate digital exclusive backstage interview with Dragunov discussing his thoughts about being drafted to the RAW brand.
“I have no words. NXT became my home. These people, a lot of these people became a home away from home for me. But now it’s time for my next chapter, and I gotta make a promise. One promise that I already kept here. To every place I come, I push the place to the next level. That’s what I do. That’s what I did with NXT. This is the same thing I do when I come to Raw, with incomparable passion and incomparable intensity. Trust me, no one is prepared, and no one is safe anymore when ‘The Mad Dragon’ arrives.”
Dragunov also gave his thoughts about his and the NXT’s locker room’s reactions following his draft pick announcement.
“It’s amazing, I never expected it. I never expected, so far away from all the places I came before, I find home again. They are beautiful people here who exactly pushed me as much as I pushed everything else, and I will be always grateful for that.”
Dragunov also gave his thoughts about being on the same roster as Gunther considering their famous past rivalry in NXT UK.
“I think there’s only one word that describes it. Destiny.”
