As noted before, Saturday’s AEW Collision show featured the announcement of The Young Bucks will be making a big announcement at this Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Charleston, West Virginia. This announcement was later revealed to be the Young Bucks presenting never before seen backstage footage from AEW’s All In event this past August.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that his sources stated that AEW talents were informed by company officials that this footage will show the CM Punk and Jack Perry backstage altercation that eventually led to Punk’s firing from the company. Sapp reported that the timing of this footage’s release is no coincidence and is meant to be AEW’s retaliation against Punk over comments he made in a recent interview with The MMA Hour bashing the company and AEW CEO Tony Khan.
Those spoken to reportedly stated that AEW would not “falsely promote” something and then not deliver it. Sapp reported that there also appears to be no issues of legality over AEW airing this footage.
In regards to FTR, Sapp reported that one AEW source spoken to stated that they would not be surprised if FTR were informed beforehand about the footage to be aired due to them being close with Punk during his time in the company. Khan reportedly respects FTR a lot.
Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources stated that the footage that will be shown will not include Punk’s backstage altercation with Khan and it will only be of Punk’s confrontation with Perry.
Bryan Alvarez reported in the same episode that his sources stated that Khan was “very upset” over Punk’s interview and he had actually wanted to show this footage a long while ago but for whatever reason he deiced against it until Punk’s recent comments were made.
Meltzer and Alvarez both believed that AEW would not be showing this footage if it were to confirm in any way of what Punk said about his backstage altercation during his interview on The MMA Hour show.
