More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for April 17th
The April 17th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership, a small decline in key demographic ratings, and a slight decline in key demographic rankings.
AEW drew 762,000 viewers and a 0.26 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 5th place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines this week was due to a combination of stiff sports competition from the 2024 NBA Play-In Tournament and the large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 26% compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that AEW’s lead-in programming Big Bang Theory drew 1,025,000 viewers and a 0.18 key demographic rating that night on TBS. Meltzer reported that AEW’s overrun this week featured the rare occurrence of where it did not gain viewers and instead lost them by a sizeable amount.
In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 NBA Play-In Tournament game of Miami Heat vs. Philadelphia 76ers drew 3,306,000 viewers on ESPN, the 2024 NBA Play-In Tournament game of Atlanta Hawks vs. Chicago Bulls drew 3,071,000 viewers on ESPN, the NHL game of St. Louis Blues vs. Dallas Stars drew 290,000 viewers on TNT, the NHL game of Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Tampa Bay Lightning drew 278,000 viewers on TNT, Survivor drew 4,839,000 viewers on CBS, My 600-LB Life drew 422,000 viewers on TLC, House Hunters Repack drew 756,000 viewers on Home & Garden TV, and Top Chef drew 540,000 viewers on BRAVO.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 337,000 viewers.
In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 917,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 685,000 viewers for their sixth quarter.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 8.2% in overall viewership and down 9.7% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 25.5% compared to the same week last year.

The April 12th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW gain a large increase in overall viewership and a small increase in key demographic ratings.
AEW drew 295,000 viewers and a 0.08 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 32nd place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases that week was due to the small increase from their overall key demographic viewership group, which was up 6% compared to the prior week’s show, and the large increase from female key demographic viewership group, which its percentage was not given. This reportedly offset the large decline from their male key demographic viewership group, which its percentage was not given.
In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 Master Golf Tournament replay drew 954,000 viewers on ESPN, the NBA game of Phoenix Suns vs. Sacremento Kings drew 414,000 viewers on NBA TV, the NBA game of Milwaukee Bucks vs. Oklahoma City Thunder drew 341,000 viewers on NBA TV, the MLB game of Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros drew 162,000 viewers on MLB Network, 2024 NASCAR Trucks Texas race drew 503,000 viewers on FS1, and On Patrol Live drew 813,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 106,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership split was 53.3% in favor of males.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 53.8% in overall viewership and down 61.3% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that the reason for the large decline was due to last year’s show benefited from a stronger than usual lead-in viewership from the 2023 NBA Play-In Tournament.

The April 13th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW gain a large increase in key demographic rankings and a slight increase in overall viewership but also suffered a slight decline in key demographic ratings.
AEW drew 468,000 viewers and a 0.13 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 15th place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s mixed results that week was due to he large gain from their Over 50 viewership group, which its percentage was not given, and the small gain from their older male key demographic viewership group, which was up 3.5% compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly was mostly offset by a combination of stiff sports competition from UFC’s UFC 300 event and news coverage of the Iran missiles attack on Israel and the large declines from their younger key demographic viewership and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were down 42.2% and 14.9% respectively compared to the prior week’s show.
In terms of head-to-head competition, UFC 300 Prelims drew 1,864,000 viewers on ESPN, the NHL game of Boston Bruins vs. Pittsburgh Penguins drew 1,188,000 viewers on ABC, the MLB simulcast games of St. Louis vs. Arizona and San Diego vs. Los Angeles Dodgers drew 188,000 viewers on MLB Network, the Mexican Liga MX soccer game of America vs. Toluca drew 333,000 viewers on TUDN and and On Patrol Live drew 889,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 173,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 20,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 17,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 89,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 47,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership split was 109,000 male viewers and 64,000 female viewers for a split of 63% in favor of males.

As noted before, the April 13th AEW Battle of the Belts X special drew 422,000 overall viewers and a 0.11 key demographic rating on TNT.
Battle of the Belts X also drew a #27 key demographic ranking that night.

Dave Meltzer reported that AEW’s numbers for their Battle of the Belts X special would be considered impressive considering it went head-to-head against the pay-per-view main card of UFC’s UFC 300 event and the very tough impact that would have had on AEW’s younger key demographic viewership group. Meltzer reported that while Battle of the Belts X was ranked #27 for the night, it was in fifth place for its actual timeslot, only behind Top Rank Boxing, On Patrol Live, and both CNN and Fox News’ shows coverage of the Iran missiles attack on Israel.
In terms of notable head-to-head competition, Top Rank Boxing drew 551,000 viewers on ESPN and On Patrol Live drew 889,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 145,000 viewers.
