As noted before, Drew McIntyre’s contract with WWE is currently expected to expire at some point after this past weekend’s WrestleMania 40 event. McIntyre was notable for both winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Seth Rollins and quickly losing the title to Damian Priest during this past Sunday’s WrestleMania 40 Night 2 event.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that there has been no new real updates from his sources beyond McIntyre recently telling talent and those close to him that he has still yet to sign a new contract with the company.
Sapp reported that those spoken to stated that McIntyre’s lack of a signing for a new contract was “not cause for alarm” with WWE’s new regime and this is something that has been common of late in the company. WWE officials reportedly currently have creative plans for McIntyre and they also want to keep him in the company.
In regards to McIntyre’s contract expiration date, Sapp reported that McIntyre’s contract is currently set to expire within the next few months. Sapp also reported that McIntyre has made it clear to others that he wants to say in WWE but is also confident that he would succeed away from the company if he were to leave instead.
