As noted before, Drew McIntyre’s contract with WWE is currently expected to expire at some point after WWE’s WrestleMania 40 event earlier this month.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that McIntyre and WWE officials have yet to come to terms for a potential new deal. One source spoken to reported that McIntyre’s contract is currently set to expire in the “5-6 week” range.
Another source spoken to reportedly stated that WWE officials and McIntyre have been in discussions for the past several weeks but they have yet to get to the “finish line” in regards to the terms for it.
Johnson reported that those spoken to stated that one reason why WWE made changes to their Talent Relations department last week was in order to install officials, Chris Legentil and Matthew Altman, into the department who have forged past relationships with talents. This reportedly is meant to help facilitate WWE’s current signing process in a much stronger fashion.
Besides McIntyre, Johnson also reported that WWE officials are also making it a point to make sure that a new deal for Becky Lynch is completed before her current contract expires. One source spoken to reportedly stated that they believe Lynch has eight weeks left on her current contract but this is something that Johnson has not been able to confirm from his other sources.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that his sources confirmed Johnson’s report and provided some additional details regarding McIntyre’s current talks with WWE for a potential new contract.
Sapp reported that those spoken to stated that McIntyre’s current contract expires before the end of this June. Those spoken to reportedly also stated that McIntyre has been professional in handling his contract situation despite things moving along much later than was originally expected by him.
In regards to former WWE Vice President of Talent Relations Dan Ventrelle, Sapp reported that Ventrelle had only reached out to McIntyre in March for new contract talks and after McIntyre had already been booked for a significant program for WrestleMania 40.
Sapp reported that despite his expiring contract situation, McIntyre is still heavily included in the advertising for WWE’s upcoming Clash at the Castle 2024 event this June, which takes place in McIntyre’s home country.
