More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for March 20th
The March 20th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a slight increase in overall viewership.
AEW drew 800,000 viewers and a 0.27 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 3rd place.
Detailed key demographic viewership breakdowns were not available in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for AEW’s increase this week was due to the large gains from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was up 25.9% compared to last week’s show. This reportedly mostly offset the combination of stiff sports competition from the NBA and 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament and the declines from their Over 50 viewership and older key demographic viewership groups, which its percentages were not given. Meltzer reported that AEW’s lead-in programming Big Bang Theory’s viewership was much weaker than usual at 1,096,000 viewers and was down 30.9% in key demographic viewership compared to last week’s show.
In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Milwaukee Bucks vs. Boston Celtics drew 1,393,000 viewers on ESPN, the 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament game of Montana State vs. Grambling State drew 1,451,000 viewers on TruTV, the 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament game of Boise State vs Colorado drew 1,782,000 viewers on TruTV, the NHL game of Toronto Maple Leafs at Washington Capitals drew 331,000 viewers on TNT, Survivor drew 4,681,000 viewers on CBS, and Top Chef drew 492,000 viewers on BRAVO.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 359,000 viewers.
In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 911,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 735,000 viewers for their fourth quarter.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 16.1% in overall viewership and down 17.3% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 22.1% compared to the same week last year.

The March 20th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership and a large increase in key demographic ratings. This week’s show was notable for being a live show and not a taped show and also being preempted to a Wednesday’s night timeslot on TBS due to TNT’s commitments with the 2024 NCAA Men’s basketball tournament.
AEW drew 541,000 viewers and a 0.18 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 10th place.

Dave Meltzer reported that the reason for AEW’s increases this week was due to the stronger than usual lead-in viewership from that night’s Dynamite show and night for television viewership compared to their normal Friday night timeslot and lead-in viewership.
In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Memphis Grizzles vs. Golden State Warriors drew 1,237,000 viewers on ESPN, the 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament game of Boise State vs Colorado drew 1,782,000 viewers on TruTV, Top Chef drew 492,000 viewers on BRAVO, Booked: First Day In drew 364,000 viewers on A&E Network, and Ghost Adventure: Screaming Room drew 393,000 viewers on Discovery Channel.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 236,000 viewers.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was up 45% in overall viewership and 80% in key demographic viewership. The reason for the large gains was due to last year’s show on the same week was preempted to a Saturday night on TNT.

- 4Q – 485,000 overall viewers and 222,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Takeshita vs. Romero match and the bulk of the Women’s Street Fight match of Willow Nightingale & Kris Statlander vs. Julia Hart & Skye Blue)

The March 16th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership and a slight decline in key demographic rating and key demographic rankings.
AEW drew 393,000 viewers and a 0.12 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 16th place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines that night was due to the stiff sports competition from the NBA and college basketball and the large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 33.3% compared to the prior week’s show. Meltzer reported that AEW’s Collision show had the rare occurrence where the overrun generated the peak for their key demographic viewership for an AEW show.
In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Golden State Warriors vs. Los Angeles Lakers drew 2,968,000 viewers on ABC, the College basketball game of UConn vs. Marquette drew 1,676,000 viewers on FOX, the College basketball game of North Carolina vs. North Carolina State drew 3,276,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of Kent State vs. Akron drew 359,000 viewers on ESPN2, NASCAR Trucks Bristol 2024 race drew 808,000 viewers on FS1, the 55th NAACP Image Awards drew 1,313,000 viewers on CBS and 653,000 viewers on BET, and On Patrol Live drew 934,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 160,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 20,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 8,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 93,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 39,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership split was 113,000 male viewers and 47,000 female viewers for a split of 70.7% in favor of males.
