As noted before, Jack Perry has been suspended from AEW since this past August due to his involvement in a backstage incident with CM Punk at AEW’s All In event. During his on-going suspension, Perry has been working for New Japan Pro Wrestling since this past January.
The Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez reported that Perry responded to them stating that Dave Melzter’s report in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter about him constantly contacting AEW Tony Khan to apologize or asked for forgiveness in the months following his backstage incident with CM Punk is not accurate.
Perry reportedly stated that he did not hear from Khan for two months following AEW’s All In event and he never texted Khan to say that he was sorry over the incident. Perry reportedly also stated that he had informed Khan’s lawyers that he would not be the first to initiate contact between the two sides.
Perry also reportedly stated that Khan had finally setup an in-person meeting between the two prior to this past November’s Full Gear 2023 event in Los Angeles. This meeting was stated to have involved them discussing plans to bring him back to the company this past December. Perry reportedly stated that these plans were scrapped following CM Punk’s return to WWE this past November.
In regards to Perry’s current work for NJPW, Perry reportedly stated that he had wanted to work at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 18 event but was unable to do so due to logistical reasons. Perry reportedly then worked with NJPW official Rocky Romero and Khan to setup his current run in the company.
Perry reportedly also confirmed that he is still under a contract with AEW but he had asked for his release that was denied by AEW officials. Perry also stated that AEW still has no plans to bring him back to the company any time soon.
Perry reportedly also stated that he has not talked to Khan in recent months nor did he clear anything he has done in storyline in NJPW with Khan, such as him tearing up an AEW contract or his usage of the nickname “scapegoat” for his new character.
