Kenny Omega Diverticulitis Health Status Update

As noted before, Kenny Omega has been out of action for AEW since this past January due to him suffering from diverticulitis.

In a recent Twitch stream, Omega provided an update on his health and recovery from diverticulitis.

“I know how I feel physically. I’ve been through the ringer in terms of injuries and getting banged up and all of that. I kind of know now what I feel like, and I can come back (from physical injuries). This is the first time I’ve ever been put out with a sickness. It’s hard to really know what’s going on in the inside when you feel a little bit of pain, but you don’t actually know the inner workings of what’s going on. I would love to say, ‘Hey guys, I’m on track to coming back next week, next month, a half of year.’ I don’t have that confidence this time. When they’re explaining to me that I was 24 hours away from a terrible blood infection and possibly dying, this is like news to me. I’ve never heard of anything like that. ‘I wasn’t close to dying, are you kidding me? No way.’ The doctors are there to ensure my safety and educate me as to how important this is. I don’t want to talk out of my ass too much and say I’m going to for sure be back, and I’ll be back at a certain date or time because I don’t know. I will say, after watching Dynamite, and getting a feel of the lay of the land. If I can come back, I feel like I have to. We may never get an environment like that again. I don’t know if I would call it fun, more of a responsibility. I have a responsibility to mix it up with these guys that call themselves the best. I used to be that guy and have confidence. Now, instead of being that guy with a chip on his shoulder, now, it’s my job to be a gatekeeper. You want to call yourself the best? Fucking prove it, bitch. Do I need surgery? I still don’t know. It’s been really touch and go. I was feeling great for a week or two. When you feel terrible, a week or two feels like a long time and it feels like you have momentum and you’re going to push to the finish line, which is to come back. For two weeks, I was feeling great. I ran into a bit of a roadblock and I had to get some emergency treatment again. Well, I wouldn’t say it’s two steps forward, two steps back, but maybe it’s one and a half steps back. I’m better than where I was, but I’m not sure how much improvement I made. When I see these guys, whether it be on pay-per-view or Dynamite, Raw, SmackDown, NXT, anybody. It makes me want to get back into that ring shape. I’m doing this weird balancing act of trying to manage the pain or sickness and trying to train. I’m trying to make sure things don’t get too out of hand. If suddenly I’m healed and cleared, I want to hop back in. I don’t want to be like, ‘I haven’t done a thing in four or five months’ or whatever it is. I’ll be disappointed, and you guys will be disappointed. The bar is so high. I don’t want to come back being below that bar. I want to try the best I can.”

AEW News & Notes

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that former WCW wrestlers Glacier and Ernest “The Cat” Miller were in attendance backstage at Thursday’s AEW Collision tapings in Duluth, Georgia.

As noted before, AEW recently announced that they will be holding a new event called AEW Dynasty on April 21st in St. Louis, Missouri. Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that AEW officials had been considering other potential locations for this event as recently as within this past February.

QT Marshall reportedly was in attendance backstage working as a producer at this past Sunday’s AEW Revolution 2024 event in Greensboro, North Carolina and this past Wednesday’s Dynamite show in Duluth, according to PWInsider.

This past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show featured The Young Bucks firing Kenny Omega from The Elite due to him missing his dates in recent months for no good reason and being oblivious over the real reason for Omega’s current absence. Following the show, Omega responded on Twitter about his firing from The Elite with a photo of him giving a face of disbelief over the news.

AEW recently released a new episode of their Johnny Loves Taya romcom series featuring Johnny TV and Taya Valkyrie on their official YouTube channel.

Fightful Select reported that Britt Baker and Rocky Romero were among those in attendance backstage at this past Sunday’s AEW Revolution 2024 event in Greensboro, North Carolina.

As noted before, Lex Luger was among the wrestling legends in attendance at this past Sunday’s AEW Revolution 2024 event for Sting’s retirement match. In a recent interview with the Busted Open Radio podcast, Luger gave his thoughts about him being at the event in support of Sting. Luger stated “Incredible atmosphere. When I first heard, I asked him, ‘Are you guys going on last?’ I guess they debated that a little bit. Sometimes, those pay-per-views, they do a warm up show. It was hot in there and sometimes you can lose the crowd, but that crowd was phenomenal. They stayed hot. They got us out there so we could soak up the atmosphere.” Luger also gave his thoughts about why he was not able to be shown on camera or be involved in any other way during the event. Luger stated “WWE is classy. They said we can go, just don’t be on camera, interview, or be part of the match. It was an incredible evening.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent episode of the My World with Jeff Jarrett podcast, co-host Jeff Jarrett gave his thoughts about Will Ospreay’s match against Konosuke Takeshita at this past Sunday’s AEW Revolution 2024 event. Jarrett stated “[Given] how many top talent that weren’t on the show, the depth of the roster is kind of amazing. But man, Will Ospreay is a special, special talent. His athleticism takes him to another level, and Takeshita, fantastic. We’ve seen both of them before. But there was something about that setting and that stage last night, just kind of the energy of the match, from the 10, 12 minute-mark, it bumped up a level, and it’s something about those, when you have a crowd, and where their placement was on the show, the recipe is always there to kind of steal the show. Anywhere from middle of the card to two matches before [the main event], you’re kind of in that scene-stealing match vibe because if you have that kind of match on two or three or four, there’s enough time on the show that you, I don’t want to say forget about it, but the rhythm of the show…my gosh. Hat’s off to both those guys. I’m excited to see where Will takes his career this year. In my opinion, he’s holding all the aces at this point. We’ll see where he goes. He was special last night.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In the same podcast episode, Jeff Jarrett also gave his thoughts about Sting’s retirement match at this past Sunday’s AEW Revolution 2024 event. Jarrett stated “Sting’s last match. Very surreal day in so many ways. Don’t even really know where to start….We went downstairs to eat breakfast, and the table over was none other than the man himself, Stinger, with family. They walked over, and we kind of had a brief chat. It was to me one of the most special parts of the day. That was a cool moment. Anyway, it was really, really special. Then obviously, all through the day, Greensboro Coliseum, it’s one of the first big, big coliseums, it’s just gigantic. My god, it was, Ricky Morton always said it best, sold out, hanging from the rafters, but it was. It was jam-packed. With JR in the house and obviously Schiavone in the house, looked around and it was, the wrestling fan in me and so many others, you just couldn’t help it come out of you. Steamboat, Nikita, David Crockett, it was a very, very cool, surreal day, an incredible night of wrestling. I still say, it’s very, very hard to really wrap your head around, that was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity just because of, he started on TBS, and he got to finish. It is such an incredible full circle with the boys in the ring.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, John Cena gave his thoughts about what he had said to MJF during their interaction at the red carpet for the premiere of The Iron Claw film this past December in Los Angeles. Cena stated “The whole totality of the thing is, I knew he was going to be there. I don’t think the old me would have associated with him just because of how WWE I was. I still am WWE, but there is room for competition, and competition is great. Just because I wear the company brand, doesn’t mean you’re a bad performer. Sports entertainment is a finicky business, and there is a lot of chances to make moments. This is one of their top performers from AEW and I don’t know if I’m going to be the target of a moment, I’m just going to support a friend in a movie. He couldn’t have been nicer or more cordial. We meet each other, I got pulled away to take some pictures, and then we got pulled away to do everything else before I even got to him. I said, ‘Hold on, give me two minutes.’ I shook his hand, I said, ‘Man, I’m so sorry. Excuse my ignorance, I didn’t know what to expect from you today. You are a class act. I can’t believe you’re as professional as you are, that’s just my ignorance, I’m sorry I had that judgment. I want to thank you for being so special. Thanks for making my night.’ Then, we got back, and I was able to talk to him more. ‘Maybe we can get you to play for the right team one day,’ and all that. There is no denying the fact that he’s doing good work. I don’t think I should ignore that. Honestly, I was floored by his professionalism. It would have been an easy target, at a wrestling movie premiere, to have yourself a moment. We did have a moment, and it was one the internet paid attention to, and it was one where I was hoping that this person I met, I could once bet on. ‘If we just get you over here, that’d be awesome,’ but it was great. It was great to meet a professional, classy, driven young man.’” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
