AEW: Jeff Jarrett on Wrestling Career Future, Sammy Guevara AEW Suspension Update, Mercedes Mone’s AEW Contract Update

Jeff Jarrett Comments on Future of His Wrestling Career & Not Having Retirement Plans

A recent episode of the My World with Jeff Jarrett podcast featured co-host Jeff Jarrett’s thoughts about the future of his wrestling career and if he currently has plans for his in-ring retirement.

“Honestly, I have not. I don’t, I truly don’t. We’ve said this. Rewind to even 2018, when I did the Royal Rumble and did a couple of things before I went into my full-time with those guys. I even thought in my head, I thought okay, that’s probably it. Maybe a cameo here and there, but I thought that. That’s six years ago. It’s crazy. So I would have never dreamed, Ric’s Flair’s last match, how all that rolled out. Would have never dreamed that. So I definitely have no idea. Don’t give it any thought. I used to take things one year at a time. Now I just kind of take it a day at a time. I’m enjoying the hell [out of] what I’m doing. I think we, the group, it is an unusual group that has a dynamic that I’ve really never been a part of. Satnam, he is truly one-in-a-billion, and Jay’s skill set, Karen’s skill set, Sonjay’s skill set, it’s a unique package. We can be in a single, you can take any three of us, Jay was in the Continental Classic tournament just fine. You can take Satnam and give him a single run. You can give me the one-offs like I’ve done against Orange Cassidy or the Texas Chainsaw. You can tag me and Jay up, and I think you can tag me and Satnam up, or Jay and Satnam up and let me manage. Just the climate in 2024, I think we’re diverse, and can plug and play just about anywhere. We did a flaming tables match on Collision. So no, I really don’t give it any thought.”

Sammy Guevara AEW Suspension Update – Guevara Posts Message to Fans

As noted before, Sammy Guevara was recently suspended by AEW over issues regarding Guevara not following proper concussion protocol following Jeff Hardy suffering an injury during their match on the February 14th Rampage show.

In a recent vlog on his YouTube channel, Guevara provided an update thanking fans for all of the support they have shown towards him.

“To the people who support me, whether it be at the beginning or in the beginning it in the middle or maybe this is your first video you’ve watched of mine, I just want to say thank you.

I understand that I am a person who has made mistakes but I am also a person who has tried to be better.

“Roll with the punches” is a saying that I truly understand now at 30 years old. Life will throw a lot at you.

But it’s how you deal with those adversities that make you who you are. I know who I am and I know what I’m going after.

See you at the top.”

More on Mercedes Mone’s AEW Contract & Reasons for Mone Signing with AEW

As noted before, Mercedes Mone made her official debut for AEW at this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite Big Business show in Boston, Massachusetts and revealed that she was signed to an official contract with the company.

ESPN’s Marc Raimondi reported that AEW sources spoken to confirmed that Mone had signed a multi-year deal with the company.

In regards to Mone’s decision to sign with AEW, PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources recently provided new details.

Johnson reported that Mone’s deal with AEW is worth “eight figures in total over the course of the deal” and makes her likely the top paid female performer in the history of pro wrestling. Johnson also reported that WWE had also offered a monetary amount that was in the eight figures over the course of the deal as well.

Johnson reported that the major factor influencing Mone’s decision to sign with AEW was her feeling that AEW would allow for a stronger potential for the growth of both her career and other women careers, both present and future, in pro wrestling.

Another reason reportedly was due to Mone wanting to go in a new direction for her career while a return to WWE would just be her returning to a place she already had been. Another reason reportedly was due to her wanting to pursue outside projects on her own terms and priority which would not be the case if she went back to WWE.

Mone reportedly also was under the view that she would be more effective as a top female star for AEW that they could build up their women’s division around by bringing her goodwill and popularity as a ratings draw for them. Mone reportedly also viewed AEW as a chance for her to build a direct relationship with Warner Bros Discovery for potential future acting work for their properties.

Other factors that influenced Mone’s decision reportedly included AEW being far more open to Mone working on her acting career on the side, Mone’s current plans to develop fashion and music projects that she wants to keep bringing to the forefront instead of being put to the side if she went back to WWE, and wanting to leave her own legacy in professional wrestling and ownership of that legacy without it being something controlled by WWE. Mone also reportedly wanted to shake up the overall system for pro wrestling and create new opportunities for women to get a higher premium financially and more opportunities down the line as new generations of women pursue pro wrestling careers.
