Update on WWE’s New WWE Speed Series for Twitter
As noted before, WWE announced on Thursday that they will be officially launching a new wrestling-based weekly series called WWE Speed on Twitter this Spring.
The Hollywood Reporter reported that their sources stated that WWE’s deal with Twitter for their new WWE Speed series is believed to be for two years in length. It was reported that similar to other WWE programming, WWE Speed matches and shows will air weekly for 52 weeks per year on the platform.
It was also reported that matches aired for this new series will be exclusive to Twitter and will not be repurposed matches from other WWE programming. It was also reported that this upcoming new series is expected to feature WWE wrestlers from across WWE’s RAW, SmackDown, and NXT brands.
Beckly Lynch Comments on Recent Talks with WWE for Potential New Deal
As noted before, Becky Lynch’s contract with WWE is currently set to expire this June.
Fightful held a recent interview with Lynch. One of the topics discussed included Lynch’s thoughts about her recent talks with WWE for a potential new contract to stay in the company.
“That’s just what you do. I think, more than anything, it’s about deciding what the future looks like. What is the best avenue for the future, and what are the goals and what do you want to achieve? Then, you make decisions intelligently.”
WWE Reportedly Holding Double TV Tapings for NXT & SmackDown Next Week
WWE reportedly is currently scheduled to hold a double set of television tapings for NXT and SmackDown next week, according to PWInsider and Fightful Select.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson and Fightful Select’s Corey Brennan reported that their sources stated that the reason for the double set of tapings next week is due to travel-related reasons involving WWE’ top stars and staff for their upcoming Elimination Chamber 2024 event in Perth, Australia.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources provided some additional details.
Meltzer reported that WWE officials made the decision to not hold a regular live show for SmackDown next week due to their top stars needing to be in Australia by February 23rd in order to be available to work at the following night’s Elimination Chamber event.
In regards to NXT, Meltzer reported that the reason for the double tapings for NXT is due to WWE is currently scheduled to hold a new set of talent tryouts in Perth during Elimination Chamber week. Key NXT staff reportedly will be leaving for Australia for these tryouts before February 20th.
