PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources denied recent reports and rumors of WWE officials considering plans for a potential match between Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque at this April’s WrestleMania 40 event.
This rumor originated from a report from Dave Meltzer in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter about WWE had filmed an unaired segment backstage at last week’s WrestleMania 40 Kickoff press event in Las Vegas, Nevada involving The Rock and Triple H confronting each other and issuing a challenge for a match at WrestleMania 40. Meltzer’s report stated that while footage of this segment was leaked online, WWE officials not airing it during the press event itself likely was their way of not presenting this as being a storyline and instead make people believe they were not getting along with the idea to make that aspect of their power struggle angle being “real.”
Johnson reported that those spoken to stated that there was zero truth to the idea of WWE officials considering a potential match between The Rock and Triple H nor was this segment ever filmed at the press event. Johnson reported that the origin of this segment was actually from a face-off segment from 2014 involving The Rock and Triple H teasing a match that never actually happened in the end.
Johnson also reported that while its not guaranteed that a potential match between The Rock and Triple H will never happen in the future, Levesque’s heart-related issues makes it very unlikely it would ever happen.
