As noted before, former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit this past January against TKO Executive Chairman Vince McMahon accusing McMahon of committing sex trafficking and sexual abuse towards her during her time in the company. McMahon officially resigned from TKO Group and WWE on January 26th over the fallout from this lawsuit.
Fightful Select reported they they are currently working with several mainstream media outlets to help their efforts to cover the lawsuit against McMahon, which also includes WWE and former Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis as named defendants.
It was reported that the unnamed WWE executives mentioned in the lawsuit still remains a mystery to many within WWE. One high level WWE official spoken to reportedly stated that they are currently under the belief that one of the unnamed executives had “long been gone from WWE.”
In regards to Laurinaitis publicly coming out against McMahon, one longtime WWE employee spoken to reportedly stated that this was something they saw coming. This same person reportedly also stated that Laurinaitis had acted as McMahon’s “fall guy” since the Summer of 2022 and likely had a golden parachute that took care of him financially. This same person reportedly also stated that the looming possibility of actual charges being filed over the lawsuit is what many within WWE viewed as the major turning point of Laurinaits on McMahon. Another source spoken to reportedly stated “I’m sure he thinks he’s doing himself favors by saying management knew and proper WWE protocols were followed, but too many things happened there under his watch.”
Several talent spoken to reportedly stated that they have not been briefed about the lawsuit against McMahon nor have they been told that they can not speak about the nature of the lawsuit in interviews or appearances, which several have been asked about it.
It was reported that no other wrestling companies are currently believed to be actively participating in the investigations against McMahon. Talent from several other United States-based companies reportedly have been given the green light from their companies to speak about the issues or participate in the investigations if they feel comfortable doing so.
One former talent spoken to reportedly stated that they are currently weighing their options of whether to tell their story to the media or whether or not if they wanted to take legal action. It was reported that the identity of this talent was something they were not willing to reveal unless this person gave their approval first.
In regards to the affidavit from former WWE wrestler Ashley Massaro in 2019 claiming that she was raped at United States military member during an overseas tour WWE held at a military base in Kuwait in 2006 and WWE management’s cover up, it was reported that they had contacted Massaro in March of 2019 to setup an interview that May at Starrcast II in Las Vegas. It was reported that Massaro had informed to them that she was weighing her options on whether or not to open up further about her claims for this scheduled interview, which did not take place in the end due to Massaro passing away shortly before it.
