More on Anthem’s Firing of Scott D’Amore from TNA

As noted before, TNA Wrestling President Scott D’Amore’s contract was terminated by Anthem Entertainment last week and Anthony Cicione was named as the new President of TNA going forward.

Fightful Select reported that their sources provided some additional new details regarding the situation surrounding D’Amore’s firing.

It was reported that despite the shocking nature of his firing, D’Amore knew his days were numbered in the company due to Anthem officials had been preparing to fire him a month before their official announcement. D’Amore reportedly remained steadfast in trying to stay with the promotion while Anthem was steadfast on wanting to move on in a new direction. Anthem officials reportedly also wanted to present this parting of the ways as being a “mutual departure” despite this being something that D’Amore resisted.

It was also reported that as the D’Amore’s departure became more and more likely, D’Amore still maintained correspondence with Anthem and even helped incoming President Cicone in transitioning into the role. D’Amore reportedly never gave up on trying to remain with TNA, which led to his attempt to buy the company and Anthem rejecting his offer. Those spoken to confirmed that D’Amore’s attempts to purchase TNA came “before the firing was publicly known, not before D’Amore became aware.”

In regards to D’Amore and Anthem officials had clashed over increasing TNA’s budget and D’Amore’s attempts to sign Braun Strowman during his free agency in 2021, those spoken to reportedly confirmed that TNA and Strowman did hold talks for a potential deal but this deal was not for “seven figures” as had been previously believed.

It was reported that while TNA’s budget and production has recently increased, those spoken to within Anthem attribute this more to software upgrades than anything else. TNA reportedly is currently expected to run the same events schedule as they did in 2023 with only some costs being reduced compared to last year’s costs.
