More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for February 21st
The February 21st episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a small increase in overall viewership and a slight increase in key demographic ratings but suffered a slight decline in key demographic rankings.
AEW drew 828,000 viewers and a 0.29 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 1st place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s mixed results this week was due to a combination of the weaker than usual sports competition that night over the lack of NBA games, the stronger than usual lead-in Big Bang Theory viewership that drew 1,319,0000 viewers, and the increase from their older male key demographic viewership group, which was up 11.8% compared to last week’s show. This mostly offset the declines from their younger key demographic viewership and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were down 12.7% and 6.6% respectively compared to last week’s show.
In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the College basketball game of Kentucky vs. LSU drew 1,011,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of Duke vs. Miami drew 697,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of Florida vs. Alabama drew 624,000 viewers on ESPN2, the NHL game of Philadelphia Flyers vs. Chicago Blackhawks drew 387,000 viewers on TNT, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills drew 1,081,000 viewers on BRAVO, Sistas Series drew 838,000 viewers on BET, and Challenge New Champion drew 508,000 viewers on MTV.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 381,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 was 109,000 viewers (down 14.2%), Females 18-34 was 49,000 viewers (down 9.3%), Males 35-49 was 152,000 viewers (up 11.8%), and Females 35-49 was 71,000 viewers (down 6.6%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership split was 261,000 male viewers and 120,000 female viewers for a split of 68.5% in favor of males.
In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 996,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 756,000 viewers for their eighth quarter.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 19.5% in overall viewership and down 16.3% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 19.8% compared to the same week last year.

- 4Q – 819,000 overall viewers and 384,000 key demo viewers (Cassidy vs. Bennett post-match brawl with Matt Taven, Roderick Strong, & Jake Hager, the Angelo Parker & Ruby Soho backstage interview segment, the Ric Flair & Young Bucks backstage segment, and the start of the Daniel Garcia & Christian Cage promo segment)

The February 16th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a very large decline in overall viewership and key demographic rankings and a large decline in key demographic ratings. That week’s show was notable for being preempted to an earlier start time of 7PM EST due to TNT’s commitments with the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend.
AEW drew 300,000 viewers and a 0.09 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 44th place
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines was due to a combination of being preempted to an earlier start time, the stiff sports competition from the NBA All-Star Celebrity game that night, and the large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 39.3% compared to the prior week’s show.
In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 NBA All-Star Celebrity game drew 1,565,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of VCU vs. St. Louis drew 130,000 viewers on ESPN2, NASCAR Trucks Daytona race drew 1,057,000 viewers on FS1, and the Mexican Liga MX soccer game of Queretaro vs. Necaxa drew 102,000 viewers on TUDN.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 121,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 was 18,000 viewers, Females 18-34 was 16,000 viewers, Males 35-49 was 49,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 was 38,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership split was 67,000 male viewers and 54,000 female viewers for a split of 55.4% in favor of males.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was up 4.5% in overall viewership and up 39.1% in key demographic viewership.
