As noted before, former Lucha Libre AAA talent Black Taurus is currently believed to have recently signed a contract with AEW for AEW and Ring of Honor. Black Taurus is also currently expected to be changing his ring name due to legal-related issues over AAA’s ownership of the Black Taurus name and character.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources confirmed that Black Taurus recently signed an official contract with AEW.
In regards to the issues with Black Taurus’ ring name, Meltzer reported that AEW officials had wanted Black Taurus to work on a regular basis for their company following the great performances he had in his two matches with El Hijo del Vikingo in AEW and ROH. In response, AAA officials reportedly started to make things difficult for Taurus to get continued bookings and badly hurt the working relationship between the two sides.
Meltzer reported that Taurus is currently expected to start his official AEW and ROH career soon with a new name and new look in a few weeks.
In regards to AAA, Meltzer reported that AAA officials have not been fond of their talent who they allow to work in the United States start demanding to be paid more for shows in Mexico after catching their big break in the U.S. and making more money working shows there. AAA officials reportedly viewed Taurus as someone who was only an opening match type star under his former ring name until they gave him the character and big push raising his star value.
Meltzer reported that Taurus had recently asked for more money for a new deal which AAA rejected claiming that they could not support it with their market and also wanted to sign a deal with AEW. Meltzer also reported that AEW tried to work out a compromise but neither AAA nor Taurus were onboard with the idea and Tony Khan decided against getting into a legal battle over the Black Taurus ring name which AAA created. This reportedly led to AEW’s decision to create a new ring name and character for Taurus instead.
