Update on Current Estimates for AEW Worlds Ends PPV Buys
As noted before, AEW CEO Tony Khan stated during this past December’s AEW Worlds End post-show media scrum that Worlds End is currently estimated to have generated around the same about of pay-per-view buys as this past November’s Full Gear 2023 event.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW’s Worlds End event is currently estimated to have generated around 134,000 PPV buys compared to the current estimates of 135,000 for their Full Gear 2023 event.
In terms of breakdowns, Meltzer reported that Worlds End’s cable television PPV buys numbers were down by around 2% compared to Full Gear 2023 based on the same number of days after both events. Streaming buys reportedly were around identically to what Full Gear 2023 generated leading to the current estimate of 134,000 buys for Worlds End.
Meltzer reported that he would consider this current PPV buys number for Worlds End a major success mainly due to the very stiff sports competition AEW faced that night from the NFL game of Dallas Cowboys vs. Detroit Lions, which drew a combined viewership of 38,383,000 viewers on ABC, ESPN, and ESPN 2. Mezlter also reported that the general belief going into the event was that Worlds End’s buys would suffer a significant drop compared to Full Gear 2023 due to going up against a big NFL game that night.
